Assumption Cathedral, a photo from Moscow, Center

Photographer's Note

The Assumption Cathedral is the oldest, largest and most important churches in the Kremlin. It is located on the site of a small cathedral, built by Ivan I around 1330, to commemorate Moscow's new status as the seat of Russian Orthodoxy.

A century and a half later, Ivan III (the Great), decided that the church of his predecessor at the time modest and worn by time, was insufficient as a symbol of the greatness of the city. After a brief flirtation with success and without local builders, he decided to go to seek out and hire an Italian (after all, was the Renaissance).

Thus, in 1475, Alberti Fioravanti arrived from Bologna went to work. Just four years later Fioravanti died.
Besides its historical importance as the main church of Russian Orthodoxy (and therefore as the site of all coronations, funerals, victory services, and intrigues), the Cathedral is noted for its architectural and decorative elements .

The frescoes, icons, and the throne Monomakh are of particular interest to visitors, as is the archetypal synthesis of traditional architecture Fioravanti Russian church.

La Catedral de la Asunción es la más antigua, más grande y más importante de las iglesias del Kremlin. Se encuentra en el sitio de una pequeña catedral, construida por Ivan I alrededor de 1330, para conmemorar la nueva condición de Moscú como sede de la ortodoxia rusa.

Un siglo y medio más tarde, Iván III (el Grande), decidió que la iglesia de su predecesor por entonces modesta y desgastada por el tiempo, era insuficiente como un símbolo de la grandeza de la ciudad. Después de un breve coqueteo y sin éxito con los constructores locales, se decidió a ir a buscar fuera y contratar a un italiano (después de todo, fue el Renacimiento).

Así, en 1475, Alberti Fioravanti llegado de Bolonia se puso a trabajar. Apenas cuatro años más tarde Fioravanti murió.
Además de su importancia histórica como la iglesia principal de la ortodoxia rusa (y por lo tanto como el lugar de todas las coronaciones, los funerales, los servicios de la victoria, y las intrigas), la Catedral se destaca por sus elementos arquitectónicos y decorativos.

Hello Luis,
The off center placement of the Cathedral works well giving the photo a sense of direction. The angle of the shot is nice allowing us to see more than one side of the building which creates depth. The lighting is good as is the color and sharpness.

Good quality of the scanned-photo, Luis.
The golden domes stands out on pic., POV chosen show an inclusive view on the square in front.
The Cathedral is so big, as scaled by the people around.

Hola Luis,
el paso de los años casi no se nota en esta foto escaneada. La calidad de la imagen, la buena luz, los fantásticos colores, mantienen toda su frescura.
Escogiste un encuadre muy eficaz, que realza esta maravillosa arquitectura y le da una ligera perspectiva diagonal, y una bonita fuga de líneas hacia el fotogénico cielo.
Me gusta la referencia que nos da la gente que visitaba este lugar.
Un bonito recuerdo, sin duda, y una foto realmente bonita, bien rematada con un marco adecuado y elegante.
Un fuerte abrazo para los tres, y buen viaje.

A great use of colors. The deep depth of field is perfect. A well presented crop allows eyes to remain fixed on the cathedral. This is a really excellent photo, and is a good example of architectural mode. The great light on the cathedral and the blue sky color in the background also lends a lovely contrast to the scene.

si bien me interesa la historia y me gusta la foto ..... no puedo decir que me guste la iglesia.... una mescla algo indefinida.

With the recent memories still vivid in my mind, I found this lovely picture of yours from inside the Kremlin. I've taken almost the exact same composition, but had nowhere the same good fortune with the weather. The clear blue skies have made the golden domes shine brightly and render a strong impact.

An impressive result for an impressive cathedral, and dare I say it once more....picture postcard! :) Smartly arranged, and I really like the idea to include the small group of tourists in the bottom left corner...adding just that little extra touch of depth. Have a wonderful weekend. Take care.
