Photographer's Note
Bukhara in Uzbekistan is an ancient oasis city along the fabled Silk Route and it is said that the sun shines up from the city for it is so noble. For centuries it was a centre of trade and Islam, earning the title Bukhoro-i-Sharif, or "Noble Bukhara" among Muslims (one of the seven holy cities of Islam). The city itself boasts impressive architecture and history. It is one of the few places in Central Asia where one can feel the heartbeat of ancient Central Asia. Most of the city remains intact and most of the 250,000 inhabitants are members of families who have lived there for generations upon generations.
Central Asia’s holiest city, Bukhara, which is more than 2,000 years old, has buildings spanning a thousand years of history, and a thoroughly lived-in old centre that probably hasn’t changed much in two centuries. It is one of the best places in Central Asia for a glimpse of pre-Russian Turkestan.
Most of the centre is an architectural preserve, full of madressas, a massive royal fortress and the remnants of a once-vast market complex.
The early 16th century Mir-i-Arab Medrassa (school) is part of the Kalon mosque complex and stands opposite the Kalon Mosque in the historic center of Bukhara. It is noted for some of the most exquisite and intricate arabesque tile mosaics in Central Asia. Founded in the 16th century, the Islamic school features two distinctive blue domes and other tilework.
The medrassa is off-limits to tourists, but its facade can be enjoyed from Kalon Square.

Hi Angshuman,
The presence of the people is adding life to the scene. The length of the square is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the Mir-I-Arab Madrassa. The good luminosity is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Angshuman,
You opened the door to country not to much seeing on TE. Through beautiful door you showed gorgeous architecture of Mir-I-Arab Madrassa. The walls are full of tiled mosaics and to bad that a tourist can't go inside.
The silhouetted persons in the FG made perfect classic composition. Great quality of the photo as well interesting note.

Hello Angshuman,
This is a fantastic mosque and you have captured it very well. The large wooden gates frame the view perfectly, and while the people in the courtyard don't add a lot of colours they really make the view pleasantly lively. The colours and sharpness of the façade and domes are superb.
Kind regards,

Hello Angshu,
This facade, with its intricate designs, is simply stunning. I also love the turquoise color of the domes and the pointed arches. Your presentation, with some silhouettes in the foreground, and the lovely open doors on either side, is really great. This looks like a scene out of an ancient fairytale.

welcome back, wanderer. your first photo is a striking one, one which comes to mind when bukhara is mentioned. great light and colors, and a pp show revealing the details on the doors. achieving perfect symmetry is sometimes really difficult, i wonder why, it also happens to me, causing me to spend lots of time in a single spot. there in the shadows, i almost recognize lopa, or i might be wrong :)

Hi Anshu,
wow this is so beautiful. Your composition I believe squeezed all the best of this POV. The golden gate makes a wonderful framing and its details are so well enhanced by reflecting some residual light. The full symmetry is very pleasant for the eye. Silhouettes of people do not disturb but even add a nice touch of life and action. The architecture itself is spectacular, great light allowed you to capture it in fantastic eye catching colors.
Excellent work! Even for this photo only it was worth the trip!!

Its about finding right symmetry first and then the light. Sometime i just step back and wonder if this is best representation of Man, patience and simplicity.
The little window inside the dome, where you can see the sky...mesmerising.

Hello dear Angshu
I just saw this older post on today's opening page of TE. A superb picture I'd missed earlier. Great silhouettes of people (locals and tourists), a most wonderful facede (as I'd seen before) wonderfully framed by those two giant doors, which get just about the right amount of light! A terrific piece of work!
All the best
Benny
