Tourists in Khast Imam, a photo from Tashkent, East

Photographer's Note

The Khast-Imam complex in Tashkent is a recreated modern site built in the 1990s on an original site. It is a religious centre in Tashkent and a place for worship for Muslim pilgrims. It is situated in the old city area and surrounded by blocks of mud houses.

The ensemble comprises of the Barak-Khana Madrassah of the 16th century, Teleshayakh Mosque, part of which houses an important religious library, the 16th century Kaffal-Shashi mausoleum, which was built over the grave of Abubekr Mukhmmad Kaffal-Shashi, and the Imam al-Bukhari Institute.

This picture is of the Teleshayakh or Khast-Imam mosque from the rear, taken from the central plaza and courtyard behind it. The smaller building right of centre with the blue ribbed dome is the Islamic Library and was constructed to hold the world’s oldest Koran. This is an 7th Century copy that was brought possibly by the Prophet's cousin who is buried at Shah-i-Zindah in Samarkand. There are blood stains down the spine and the sides from when the person is killed. No photography is allowed inside the building.

Hello Angshuman,
I like this rather humorous and expressive composition. Everyone who has been touristing in hot climates will recognize the relief of finding shelter in the shade. The contrast between the foeground and the large open space is very strong, but you have handled the difficult light very carefully and every part is correctly exposed. The building across the square is quite beautiful and from this distance it's not possible to see that it's brand new.

What a treat to view such a beautiful complex, even though it is new.
I like how we sit and view from the shaded area, the sun looks pretty fierce and harsh out there.

The presence of the tourist is animating the scene. The distance between the tourist and the Mosque is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the Mosque. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

the people in FG are a good anchor point, but as they don't look at the camera, we follow them to discover the almost empty sunny place and the colored domes of the mosque.

always a pleasure to take a look at your gallery.
this photo is no different.

I have to commend you on this shot - personally I always try to avoid such lighting conditions with varied lights and darks. Even with HDR its really hard to end up with a good photo.

what an attractive shadow portion you have here, and the people in the fg really do make the photo what it is. Without them there'd be a large empty space, dead space.

Lovely the way the wide opened gate guides us into the main interest depicting the architectural beauty without losing detail in shadowed areas. What i like most abt this picture is the light quality with right elements put together and great how the domes' stunning green act as strong pointers leading into the scene. I like the repetition of the turquoise domes on the bg mosques. Good graphism and silhouettes of the fg tourists. They look exhausted and are relaxing for a moment. Excellent sharpness and well composed with good color and saturation. Tfs!

Hello Angshuman, Beautiful photo from Tashkent. The woman's scarf fits beautifully to blue domes. Such a big open space, everyone is looking for some shade. Fantastic architecture of the complex with domes and minarets, it would be great to see it on a big picture and also more closely.

I like a pictures from the countries not very often seen on TE, and Uzbekistan is on of them.
This is an interesting composition with a people sitting in the shade in the FG and beautiful mosque across the square in the BG. Great quality of the picture as well colors, light, sharpness and interesting note.

Excellent shot considering the strong light and contrast. I like that you included the people in the foreground, which makes it challenging to keep the balance between the shadow and light. You did great in both, not over exposing the landscape and yet maintain wonderful details of the people in the foreground with a semi silhouette quality. Excellent quality and good composition.

A very large square and surrounded by wonderful architecture from a thousand and one night. And yet only a few visitors and one cyclist.
By including the people on the foreground you give good depth at the picture.
