Photographer's Note
Adjacent to Bibi Khanum Mosque in Samarkand, is the "Central or Siyob Bazaar".This is a picture from the the Bread section of the market. Bread is sacred by Uzbek people. By a tradition, when someone leaves the house he should bite off a small piece of bread, which will be kept until he comes back and eat it.
Uzbek bread, called generally non or lepeshka, is round and flat and is baked in tandoor (clay oven), after which it comes out toasted and crispy.
There are two types of Uzbek bread - plain (non) and festival special (patyr). Though round in shape, the breads differ in appearances and taste and are different by regions as well – Samarkand, Bukhara and others. Each region has their own method of baking, thereby giving their breads their own inimitable tastes.
Samarkand bread is one of the most famous of Uzbekistan and is famed for its taste, texture (flakiness) and the fact that they do taste the same for a long time, without getting stale.

Namaste Angshuman. One of my favourite subjects- bread, for wheat is in itself a paradox, giving us our daily staple food which is also used in religious rituals by some cultures, and yet bread's availability is the result of agriculture where wheat, barley, rice, took humanity from hunting and gathering to a sedentary, urban life that ultimately led to the despoliation of nature in its pristine form and ultimately to monoculture and the use of pesticides etc.Having said that, there is nothing on earth to match the sweet scent of freshly baked bread being taken out off the oven. The photo tempts us with the golden colours of the flat bread and the POV chosen.Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Angshuman,
Although I've never been to Samarkand, or anywhere else in Uzbekistan, I think I could fairly well imagine the smell and taste of this bread. It couldn't be entirely different to the wonderful bread I have tasted in Iran and Afghanistan, or for that matter India. The aroma can make it a pleasure just to walk by the bakery. This is a lovely photo of the saleswoman and her tasty looking nons. The light is so nicely concentrated in the foreground that I almost overlook the rather dull interior of the market. The boy leaning inside the frame to the right is slightly disturbing and could perhaps have been left out of the composition. For the balance even those to the left could have been cropped. But this is not a major criticism, just a marginal suggestion.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Angshuman,
You have capture well the serious expression of the woman. The point of vew is showing the details of the loafs of bread. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Angshuman,
Il est beau et semble bien bon ce pain plat sur les tables du marché au pain. J'ai aussi bien aimé le texte qui accompagne la photo. J'aime le trait de lumière sur le visage de la dame.

Hello Angshu,
It's a vivid portrait, very well captured in a situation that doesn't look easy, either for composing or to tame the light, but you achieved in both. I like the way that the breads and the seller stand out from the rest.

Il ne manque que la bonne odeur du pain, que la lumière met en vedette, pour profiter pleinement de cette très bonne photo de la vie de ce marché.

Hello Angshuman
A fine composition with the delicious looking nons and their seller. You made excellent use of the light in the foreground. I love the golden brown colour of the breads that indeed provides the perfect visual impact to this excellent daily life picture. Your note is an interesting read too. It makes me wonder how do they keep the nons from getting stale...? Excellent presentation and thanks for sharing it.
have a nice weekend

I love this warm side lighting and the real atmosphere there and bearing in mind your circumstances, i think this is an incredibly stand out mainly due to the light and where the breads & the woman were positioned in it. The exposure is subtle without any hot spots, the colour combination, pov and closeness work so well together which is further enhanced by diffuse background. A fine job with this, street photography is not easy but you have a great capture here. Congrats
Best regards

Hi Angsuman,
A superb daily life shot of the bakery and nice to not see a machine in sight for a change. Good sharpness, colour and saturation. I like the low shooting angle looking upwards. Nice repetition of the baked bread stacked neatly. Tfs!
