Photographer's Note
These coracles are used by fishermen to paddle to their larger fishing boats anchored off shore.
Used for centuries they were popular vessels of Celtic races in Europe and made of reeds, horsehair and waterproofed with tar.
Vietnamese coracles are made from bamboo and palm leaves.
In the recent Typhoon hundreds of Vietnamese fishermen are missing after being caught at sea: many are thought to have been paddling in between larger vessels in coracles such as this.
I just adjusted levels in the sky, and lightened the foreground. Little bit of sharpening, added a frame and that's it.
Typhoon.

Hi Brian,
Excellent composition. The coracle, the beach and sea beyond and the magnificent cloud formation all combine for this impressive image. I like the space you have devoted to the sky, it truly deserves it.
As far as coracles are concerned, similar ones can be seen the rivers and backwaters of South India.

A beautiful use of wide angle here, Brian. That sky makes a beautiful ceiling, and the pinkish sand makes a nice color contrast. When in Vietnam I found it remarkable how little these boats leaked (although bailing is certainly required.) Regards, Ken.

Hi, Brian. You made nice sky here. This boat is something very primitive, but interesting and original. It would be perfect if there was no other boats on the shore(and specially this closed with blue)...but it is as it was and still very nice.

Hi Brian, strong shot, I know these cute little boats and you've captured this one superbly. The sky is busy, deep and dramatic. Well done, Daniel

Another great wide-angle shot. The Cloud Gods were with you that day. The clouds sure makes this boat look vulnerable to the elements. Sure enough, as you say, many had been lost in the last typhoon. All in all, this is a great composition. Regards! - Mike O.

Hi Brian,
The oncoming clouds also bring movement to this static coracle - great perspective effect with good colours and well chosen subject for presentation!
Very good work - I love it!

Its that boat again...I prefer this one...perhaps because you went for portrait...I dont know why, but it just has a better impact.

What I really like here is how the lines in the clouds all run parallel toward the horizon and also how there seem to similar lines in the sand. Combined with the deep dof, it creates a really cool illusion of depth.

Serendipidy indeed! So now I have found your interesting pictures of Asia and the UK. I like the celtic feel to this one. That magnificent sky gives such stature to the coracle. I suspect that boat such as these were used widely throughout the ancient world; your picture is an excellent recond. You have added a very good note too.

Hi Brian.
Splendide

you scored well on this without too much pp...the sky wins out and the foreground coracle is quite dominant
both compliment each other ..the static against the dynamic
cheers

Hello Brian,
I remember trying a similar shot on a beach near Hoi An last year...nothing like this one, nowhere as good I must say. Great use of an extreme wide for effect, all that sky!
Very nice work,

Impressive use of the wide angle, with a judicious vertical orientation choice. Some areas on the clouds a bit overexposed but a superb fluffy sky nevertheless.
