Photographer's Note

Back to Cuba for a moment...

The trip to Santiago was definitely marked by my interaction with the children in this great city. Their innocence, happiness, playful behaviour made me think in all the fascinating world that we lose when we grow up...

My spirit was full of enjoyment with the re-discovery of the exultant and contagious energy of their "mini-world" until almost the last day of the trip when I met this little boy that really shocked me for his sad expression and delicate manners. He was all alone, sitting on the entrance of a big corridor, looking tired... His inert attitude really impressed me. I looked at him from distance, waiting to see any reaction...then I decided to get closer and I asked him if I could take a photo... he only looked at me and stay immobile, lethargic, with an adult expression... I took this photo that shows the sadness of his eyes... I wonder if he was sick... I gave him a little gift but there was almost no reaction to it... he continued alone, looking in front, holding the gift in his hands without even checking the content... I walked away and from far, on the other side of the street, I looked back...he was there, with his fragile figure, immutable, like a shadow...

I have posted a B&W version in workshop. I am not sure which one is better.
