Photographer's Note
This small kitchen with an open door to the backyard is filled with small moths (?) dancing around the only light in the room. The child watches them in wonder for a moment before smacking her hands together at one.
This was taken in the house of the same family as my previous photo.

Mark-
What a great photo.
You have captured the look on the child's face perfectly. I think the light is quite overexposed, but in a situation like this, I'm not sure what you could do about it.
Thanks!

Hello Mark,
Tamarin has said it, the "moths" makes the shot. But obviously, not only that. The child with his wide open eyes looking at the moths is essential part of it. We see so many photos with children that I think it is one of the most difficult type of photography to do...
It is interesting how he seems a little dwarfed by the things around him. And he seems to be rooted into the ground. In opposition, the moths are "light" and flying high above.

I am wondering why you didn't upload your image in a colored version. I'm now left with my imagination : neonlights should provide a gloomy green lighting that would perfectly match the scene (providing you DO NOT switch to AWB), also giving a tropical, 3rd world flavor (when you say Cuba, you think about DA.Harvey).
I think as it is, it lacks the essential color cast, other wise it's a good photograph but with a composition or not so overwhelming that BW speaks for itself. Instead there's an unappealing greayish halo of light hovering in the upper part of the image. As you pointed the moths and the child glance are the main attractions in the shot : a color cast would have been another one... but that grey halo... hell not...

I can't say that I prefer the color version,It's ok by me the
black and white option.Personally I would have liked just to
make more focus on the boy,on his great glance and the light that
is on his face.Maybe a bit more close and the background not that
sharp, but of course it's just another approach,a personal preference. The photo it's great with a very well found point of
interest,a worth seeing one Mark.

One of the best photos I've seen in long months on TE...
Myriads of kid's fotkas - everywhere..
Not a single fotka with moths (:-))) (just joking!)
Outstanding, bro
A true achievement.
