Photographer's Note
One cannot stress enough how much care the Cuban system emphasis on education. Soon after Castro took power, he recruited a legion of volunteer teachers to go to work in the rural areas of the country. The country reached 97% literacy rate immediately (one percent behand the US). Educating the peasants not only empowered the country, but also help solidify the masses to Castro's cause.
While this astonishing figure is very compelling despite its poor economy, most children do not have the opportunity for higher education. In the next few years, Cuba is planning to expand it's education program to provide children up to grade 12 education.

I love the high contrast between light and dark. The sun was perfectly aligned to shoot down this alleyway. If only the composition was bit different. I wish you had bent down to her level. Also if you had stepped to the left just a bit you could have angled it so she was directly in front of the black background. The great lighting can’t be the only thing here. However, I realize this is a street shot and you didn't have all the time in the world to set the shot up perfectly. For most of us this would be a very good photo, but you are without a doubt one of the best photographers on Treakearth, that’s why I’m holding you to a higher standard.

You're back and suddenly TrekEarth raises the level a step up.
Only one (courageous) comment! I knew very few photographers remained in there but I didn't know they were also blind to pass by this wonder. (well in fact, I knew for some of them who loudly claim they know about photography :D...)
This trench of light going from her red dress to the red car in the back is miraculous.
Photo= Light + light + a bit of timing, maybe.

I'm with Luko all the way here, Mark (just discovering your Cuba shots after a long absence...) Brilliant work with light. Top notch, CANNOT believe the scarcity of comments - guess you still don't play the comment game. Oh well... you've got my vote.
Cheers,
Francis
