Photographer's Note
Location, location, location!!
Established as a settlement about 2500 year ago the reason that people settled here in the first place must have been the location. Beyond the castle hill is the beginning of the Myzeqe plain, Albania’s bread basket whereas in the opposite direction (behind me!) there are plenty of hills culminating with the vast Tomorri mountain offering plenty of refuge and protection when needed. At the foot of it is Osumi river offering the essential water. The old houses in the photo are south facing thus collecting all the warmth of the sun.
Because of this ideal location Berati has always served as a market town where people from the plain sold their wheat, maize, vegetables and salads whereas people from the hills and the mountain brought their meats, goat, sheep, fruits, honey, nuts etc..
Although Berati has not got the attention it deserves in terms of investments these days one thing is for sure that no matter what happens chances are that there be a city here as long as there are humans roaming the earth.
Berati is a UNESCO World Heritage protected town and a “must see” place for all those who travel to Albania.

Hello Aleks,
Like me you never seem to run out of pictures from Berat:-)
Whereas the view of the old part of the city is familiar, I notice something remarkable with this composition: there are at least three triangels (well, more or less) inscribed in a larger triangle. I like to discover such shapes which usually help to explain why I like a certain picture.
Best wishes for the weekend.
Gert
