OUT OF MY ARCHIVE 2011
Important guests from the far North
Winter in Damme traditionally stands for "frozen geese" that pass above our heads in large numbers and hibernate with us.
Freeze geese is the colloquial name for different species of Arctic geese that come to the polders around Damme in freezing weather. In fact, these are White-fronted Geese and Little Reed Geese.
For several years now, some geese have had neck rings with a unique number and letter code. This allows for the identification of individual animals and allows scientists to learn more about migratory movements and staging areas, age and family relationships.

Hello John,
A very nice composition with fine contrasts of brown and green. The brown field, green pasture and the line of trees are nicely placed on vertical sections, with a pale blue, slightly cloudy sky above. It's amazing to see so many geese on the pasture. There must be hundreds of them.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo John,
Mooie compositie in verschillende horizontale lagen.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi John,
The wideness of the field is creating depth. The point of view is showing the geese having arest period in the field. The colors and the sharpness are very good. Have a nice day.

Hi John
Picturesque scene! So many snow geese in the mid foreground with lovely tones wand beautiful trees framing the backdrop. This looks crisp just right for a good brisk walk, really well composed shot, does look rather chilly. Congrats
Best regards

Hello John,
Impeccable sharpness which is critical in such a shot of the distant geese. The exposed brown earth of the fg ploughed field contrasts well with the blue sky. The 4 horizontal layers of sky trees green field and brown earth work well here. Tfs!

Bonjour, cher ami John,
Ces oiseaux migratoires ont choisi ce champ pour prendre un peu de repos.
J'aime ce premier plan et ces terres parcellées.
Amitiés.

Hi John,
beautiful natural scenery. I like the multiple horizontal layers in here. The brown soil in the foreground green field nicely decorated with geese, pattern of the naked trees and finally a lovely sky on top.
Very well recorded with pleasant for the eye colors and the level of contrast and sharpness.
Excellent capture,
M

Hello John,
It is quite remarkable how wild creatures adapt their life styles to make the most of the different climate conditions and the different food sources.
Your photograph exploits the succeeding, different, horizontal layers of contrasting hues and textures. The f/g layer seems to make a natural connection with the line of naked trees, as if they are protecting the grassy centre, where the geese are established.
A fine, late autumnal scene.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hallo John,
Een mooi gezicht over dit weiland dat dichtbevolkt was door al die ganzen daar die een mooi patroon vormen. De lange rij bomen zorgen voor een mooie achtergrond.

Hi John.
I really like the conception of this image and four differentiated stripes, firstly this removed earth, the green stripe of the meadow, the line of trees and finally the blue of the sky.
Very good color that strengthens the image.
Superb brightness and sharpness management to enjoy the details.
Well seen and done. I like.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello John,
That is a lot of geese! I hope they were not tearing up the fields.
