The Walker (Šetač in Croatian) is one of the most famous symbols and street sculptures and represents the city in a special way. The Walker was placed on Freedom Square in Osijek in 1974, when it was the first street sculpture in Croatia and one of the first in this part of Europe. It is a silhouette of a bronze sculpture by the famous Croatian writer and publicist August Cesarac, designed and made by the Osijek academic sculptor Stjepan Gračan.
Shortly after the installation, the inhabitants of Osijek gave the bronze sculpture the nickname "Walker", and under that nickname the monument is known outside the city of Osijek. The monument is two meters high and is one of the few Osijek monuments that survived the Homeland War.
