View at shopping center ''Super''' at the Freedon square in the City of Osijek.
Super Osijek is a newly renovated shopping center in the city center that meets all modern standards to make the shopping experience complete. Super has always been a favorite gathering place of all generations of Slavonians, and in 2016 it shone with a new glow.
Super Osijek has a rich past - it was opened in 1967 as one of the largest department stores in the entire country with an area of more than 10,000 square meters. There were more than 300 merchants in the building and it was an unavoidable place in the daily life of Osijek and Slavonians. At that time, Super was a modern facility that gave a new glow to the center of Osijek. In addition to shopping, various facilities were available at Super, so you could eat well, socialize with a glass of drink or get quality service from many craftsmen.
In the mid-sixties and in the first half of the seventies, Super gave Slavonians a touch of glamor. As ridiculous as it may seem now, but at that time the hit was the escalator, the first hot sandwiches could be eaten here, and the first bottles of Cola-Cola appeared in Super. In Super, everything seemed great then. Back then, unlike today, it didnít matter which brand you bought, it mattered that it was purchased at Super. Until the morning hours of March 9, 1982, when a fire broke out in the Supermarket. It all started with a short circuit on the lighting fixture in the basement in the morning, and only extinguishing the fire until 6 p.m. The combination of unfavorable circumstances ended in great material damage. Firefighters were unable to save most of the goods in the basement and ground floor as access to firefighters was nearly impossible. Therefore, in a few hours, one of the largest department stores in Osijek and the surrounding area disappeared in a fire. The construction of a new department store in the Block Center, the new Super, began only in the spring of 1984, after the integration of the Ljubljana Fashion House and the Osijek Slavonia Textile. The biggest change compared to the original, was that it was decided to use the basement space, which was originally just a warehouse. So for a while there was an attempt to open a large brewery, and then a retail chain was established. And so we come to the present.
