Photographer's Note
Hallo everybody!
Really don't know which photo to post anymore... almost everyday I fill up the memory card, download photos on computer without a selection of good and bad photos... with the thought: you never know what you'll need tomorrow... and I must say that after a month it's much easier to make a selection, because I delete them plenty, but still I have too many photos. Many times I bracket and then look to find best exposed photo, but keep also the bad ones in case I'd like to look some other day... but it's becoming such a waste of space... I'm interested how you deal with this, do you save on CDs or DVDs the originals or at least the good photos... or what...
See you!

Hi Tomi!
Yes,you played nice with the shadows.
A good, very sharp B&W shot taken from an excellent POV .Good depth, caused by the stones and their shadows and I like the texture of the asphalt in the foreground.

Hi Tomi, A simple but very well composed B/W image, your POV is excellent & the DOF superb, that sky is awesom & the title suits very well, the shadows are magnificent, kind regards Wilson.

Hej Tomi,
Great view down the road. These stones are very nice, they create a nice repetition and also a wonderful row of shadows. I find the composition excellent and the B&W is interesting. Also with the clouds. Well done!

Such a lovely photo, Tomi.
The black and white is really eyecatching. But most of all, I love the perspective.

Excellent shot! The repeated shape of the stones, and their shadows, is very interesting, especially when you see them going off into the distance, getting smaller and smaller. I don't know what you did to the sky, but it looks amazing - really great conversion to black & white. Beautiful!

Ciao Tomi,
Complimenti e stammi bene!

Excellent shot with the strong diagonal of the path in opposition to the shadows. What great light and wonderful sky.
As for your question after a hard drive crash 18 months ago and a loss of about 1000 photos I always burn 2 DVDs after downloading and before deleting the card. Any obvious rubbish I delete first but still keep the doubtful ones. After I have processed all I want initially from the original RAWs I then burn another 2 DVDs of the edited photos along with a printout of the thumbnails before deleting from the harddrive. I don't have an external hard drive which is why I burn 2 DVDs. I guess an external hard drive would be useful as my PC keeps getting too full and slow. I keep all the originals too and cross reference them with the edited ones. That means there are 2 copies of the edited ones and 2 of the unedited. (4 total for some)

Hi Tomi, what an amazing frame...Excellent contrast, how did you did your conversion??
To your question, I pesonally have 2 fat HD's and I backup on the second one only the relevant photos in RAW and PSD. I do not keep what I really do not like very much...

A striking B/W with great shadows and textures, Tomi. The road leading to the house adds a strong perspective and the turbulent sky adds a bit of a threatening atmosphere, as to pose the question "what's going on in this house" Beautiful.
Oh, to answer your question - I just keep adding bigger external harddisk's ;-)
Have a fine weekend,
Bert

Hi Tomi,
Very strong perspective with those stones. And quite contrasty sky. Direction of light is excellent giving strength to the stones. I wonder how old they are, today it wouldn't be considered cost efficient to make such :(
What comes to your question, I shoot considerably less. Remove dublicates and obvious mistakes ASAP. Backup rest to external hard drive. After ordering prints etc I keep only the best ones on the main hard disk.

Hi Tomi
If you have more shots in a similar quality, you should definitely upload them! This is really great, wonderful contrasts and an amazingly dramatic sky, i love the long shadows on the road.
F or storing i use an external USB hard drive and then back up on cd's or dvd's.
Have a nice weekend

Dober Dan Tomi,
I grab this one as it flies before my eyes, I'm personally not too fond of BW but your contrasts look very good here and the perspective of the stones doubled by their shades leading to the house and complemented by your deep vertical framing is very nice.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Tomi - first of all, it's a fine shot. Lovely shadows from those stones along the path, and a moody looking sky. Good viewpoint, the path & stones lead us up towards the buildings & trees.
I tend to keep every photo, but I still use a digital compact & don't bracket shots in a way that I would with an SLR. I need to start backing up older files (well I've done that in the past). Another hard drive would help!
Of course, the beauty of film is that it doesn't take up space on a computer! ;)

Hi Tomi. You are not alone in your photo storage dilemmas, I think most on this site will be in the same boat. Great photo, good dramatic sky and nice textures. Well composed and processed. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Tomi,
Incredible depth, lines and graphism in this photo - and after reading your note I cannot help but request that you not delete many of your archive photos! The lighting and shadow effects here are superb, with the eye being drawn inexorably down the road toward the gleaming structure in the distance. This is art, this is poetry. This is first rate.
