Czech Chimneys, a photo from Jihocesky, Bohemia

Photographer's Note

A detail of 4 chimneys atop a red tiled roof. The designs on the facade were also interesting. I reduced the contrast 10% to allow more shadow detail. Cesky Krumlov is in south western Czech Republic close to the Austrian border. Rather than backtrack through Prague 172 km to the north, I caught a shuttle bus to Linz in Austria (56 km) and then an express train to Vienna. Shuttle buses can be arranged in Cesky Krumlov a day or 2 in advance. About 25 euro one way, still cheaper than backtracking to Prague then heading south east again.

When seeking an interesting image it is always worth looking up and you have achieved this to great effect. The sky frames the roof and chimneys really well.

Hello Chris,

Chimneys could be just as interesting a theme as windows!
They are so varied in the styles, positioning, materials and sizes.
These are particularly elegant! If you cropped the scene and presented them individually, we would assume they were towers!
You have angled the shot really well, to get a diagonal composition and have included some fine details of the decorations beneath the guttering, the windows and the roof.
It's a good, well-saturated exposure.

Hello Chris,
A great photo with this beautiful house with some fine details, a steep orange roofs and such large chimneys. The inclusion of the green tree at left is excellent as well and the bright light and blue sky were perfect circumstances.

You say 4 chimneys but there appears to be a 5th behind the right hand one or is it just and extra half. A good clear and sharp photo of them.

Excellent capture of the special looking chimneys in Český Krumlov.
Good strong colour contrasts.
Very nice with the shadows of the foliage on two chimneys.
Another place where I saw special chimneys was Ptuj in Slovenia.

a nice collection of local chimneys, in portugal they have a different one for each region. nice the view as these structures as small towers.
