There are many places in the World, where a local legend says that you have to touch some figure to gain happiness/to return to this place.
In the statue of Saint John Nepomuk there is a man with a dog. Both the man and the dog have no special meaning (or at least, it is not clear). Just some knight with his dog.
Nevertheless, people want to touch this dog. They don't know why. Just because the others have done so before.
