Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

One of the most striking buildings in Prague is this Dancing House from 1996 situated at the corner of Jirasek Square and Rasin Quay alongside the river Vltava.

An extravagant building where you can recognize the hand of the famous Canadian architect Frank Gehry. He developed this swinging tower together with the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić.

Critics of the building pointed out that it doesn´t fit into its surroundings, where various Art Noveau houses can be seen. Also the unusual shape of the building was seen as disputable. But after several years, it is regarded as one of the most interesting Prague buildings from the end of the previous century.

The project has a remarkable history in which the former Czech republic president Vaclav Havel and the Dutch company “Nationale Nederlanden” play an important role.
