Photographer's Note

Cutlery was born in Thiers, over 6 centuries ago. To preserve the memory of this tradition, opened in 1982 the Museum of cutlery. Installed on two sites, in the old centre of the city, it presents the social and economic thiernoise cutlery history and a poorly understood and sometimes disparaged object: the knife. More than a traditional Museum, it houses demonstration and manufacturing workshops where craftsmen develop parts of high range cutlery. Space encounters and privileged exchanges, this site allows visitors to discover the expertise of the couteliers.

To no longer see the knife as a simple, any object, the collections of the Museum are just as rare as unexpected models. Knife of peasant, princes knife, knives from Thiers and elsewhere, knives of yesterday and today bear witness to the evolution of this object over time
