Photographer's Note
Today I visited the Louvre and its bookshop. As I was coming up through the pyramid, I saw a very dramatic sky over the Seine and its surroundings. I walked towards the Triumphal arch of carrousel, which I knew its existence; I have never had a close look before. So, I walked over to the arch to have a quick look. The triumphal arch was magnificent but I was even more drawn by the colours of the sky over it at that moment. This is one of the many photos taken at the same moment. Since I have already mentioned the name of the arch, I would like to present to you a very short description and a brief history of the triumphal arch at the place du Carrousel.
Designed by Charles Percier (1764 –1838) and Pierre François Léonard Fontaine, (1762 –1853) the arch was built between 1806 and 1808 by the Emperor Napoleon I (1769 –1821) on the model of the Arch of Constantine (312 AD) in Rome. It was originally surmounted by Horses of St Mark's of Saint Mark's Cathedral in Venice, which had been taken into Napoleon’s possession in 1798. Following the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and the Bourbon Restoration, France gave up the quadriga (A quadriga is a car or chariot drawn by four horses.) to the Austrian empire. The Austrians immediately returned the statuary to its original place in Venice. The horses were replaced in 1828 by Baron François Joseph Bosio (1769 –1845) depicting Peace riding in a triumphal chariot led by gilded Victories on both sides. The composition commemorates the Bourbon Restoration following Napoleon's downfall. (Reference: Encyclopaedia Hachette, Wikipedia edited)

Hello Nubo,
the last light on the day had effected the compo., as it created a dark area on the arc and edifice - but also created a fine sihouette with the tree on right.
The nuon cloud and sky are marvelous.

Hi Nobu,
the sunset light as falling on the upper part of Quadriga makes the scene fine, with the colour tints to decorate pleasantly the image. The triumphal arch, the landmark of Parish, is a construction known all over the world.

Beautiful contrast of light and shade and I really like the brown tone of the arch and the trees, which harmonizes so well with the slight peachy-brown of the clouds against the blue! An unusual sky indeed. Placement of arch just a bit off center is very nice and also the way the lines of clouds and trees converge on the lower right. Lovely photo, Nobu!
I'm so glad the Venetians got their horses back...

Salut cher Nobu
Yes I can see why you were drawn to those beautiful pastel colours in the sky. You exposed them well and also the sparse trees in the background look wonderful and so typically Parisian. The arch itseld is a bit noisy - difficult to brighten it up when you wanted to keep the colours of the sky. I have this problem all the time. The only think I can suggest is the graduated filter either when you're shooting or in post production. Have you read any articles on "shooting to the right" - not something I necessarily subscribe to all the time, but something that I have found very helpful and worth considering.
Have a wonderful Friday...ahhh cheese and wine on the couch with some good TV, lovely

Hi Nobu,
Interesting light with this sky and these clouds, good complement to show architecture of this monument, maybe a vertical shot would be also interesting for this view ...

Hell Nobu-san!
This is indeed an unique angle for the arch being depicted. The sky is indeed dramatic & adds a lot to the picture. I also like the trees in the BG, standing like skeletal due to the winter months. A very nice image!
With Best Regards

Hello Dear Nobu,
I can see the pleasant surprise you had when you walked over to the arch. The colors of the sky over the arch look spectacular .I can see the effect on the arch and the trees giving them that brownish color. The Quadriga looks even more beautiful with the light falling on it. A bit of gloomy atmpsphere gives an eerie feeling. As always, your note perfectly explains what the image is and why you decided to take it.
With warm regards,
Lakshmi
