Photographer's Note

As I said before, the week I had in Paris, the weather was rainny and dull and it turned me off from taking as many photos as I normally do when I travel. For some reason I found the evening light much more attractive and made some experiences, even though I don't have the know how or the right equipment for it. On this one I used the handrail of the bridge as a tripod.
This is my postcard from Paris. I thought it would be a repetitive image in TE, but the fact is that I didn't find anything similar in the first 12 pages and so I decided to post it.
I was in the "Petit Pont" facing the famous "Cathédrale de Notre Dame". The bridge seen in front of it is the "Pont au Double". Along the river Seine there's a nice walkway and you can see a couple walking in the distance.

In WS there's another postcard with the Eiffel tower.

Hello Ricardo

You are right, your picture deserves to be published.
The point of view is interesting, and I think Notre-Dame is less often seen in this way, with the prefecture on the left.
The light and exposure are well managed, and there is a very good quality despite the fact you didn't used a tripod. Well done.

Hola Ricardo, the details and sharpeness are amazing, the only caviat is that your horizon line is tilted causing a little distraction. Other than that it is a great captured!

I have almost exactly the same photo :-), taken 6 days earlier at 18.00h, but only vertical and a little more zoomed in. It looks like the Christmas tree was still in front of the cathedral, wasn't it? ;-)
Beautiful night photo with wonderful illuminations of the houses and of course the Notre Dame itself. The two quays on both sides are a good frame, well included. Nice reflections in the Seine too. Thanks for sharing!

A fotografia está lindíssima aqui. Ponto de tomada, composição, ajuste da iluminação e tudo o mais. Interessante o efeito estrelado das luzes, mesmo com a abertura de f/3.2 e sem filtro para iso.

Hi Ricardo,

I thought that I had already seen this pretty point of the sight on the Notre-Dame cathedral. It is our friend Marc (Morac) who photographed, almost same point of view, this beautiful place of Paris.
Beautiful management of the luminosity here which emphasizes the cathedral well and gives to the Seine appreciable reflections and then… I like toujour as much the quay on the right which, under this light, gives an intimate side to the place. Beautiful work Ricardo, cheer and thank you for the beautiful WS too.

Bonjour Ric,
I hope you liked your stay there nevertheless. I went there with my girlfriend last spring and we had a lot of fun there. Weather was dull as well, always rainy, but still, it's such a beautiful place. Rainy weather givs nice reflections at night!
There is no dull angle to take pictures of Notre-Dame, it's always breathtaking. I'm sorry that you did not have a tripod for this one. A longer exposure would have flatten the water and the reflections would have been more prominent. However you would have lost that couple walking along the Seine, which would be bad because they add a lot here. They're right under the light, you were waiting for them to be under the light, did you?
You brought back good souvenirs in my head and made me dig into my Paris stuff...:D

aunque hayamos visto estas postales de París mucas veces, no dejan de sorprender por su belleza. Tu punto de vista y tu encuadre son muy buenos, el Sena nos regala una espléndida y profunda perspectiva, y tanto Nôtre Dame como la arquitectura de las dos orillas del río con esta bonita iluminación y sus reflejos sobre el agua, funcionan muy bien a nivel estético y componen una escena muy elegante y atractiva.

Não me dei ao trabalho de procurar PDV's semelhantes, mas parece-me que nunca o tinha visto antes, nem no TE nem em qq outro lado. Mas isso não é assim tão importante, o que conta é que é uma bela fotografia! Gosto da profundidade, do dinamismo, das luzes, não só na fachada da Notre-Dame, como nos outros edifícios, nas margens do rio e na água. De tudo, enfim. E vejo que desta vez conseguiste incluir umas pessoínhas, talvez um casal de namorados a passear à beira do Sena.

Tb. gosto do WS, embora talvez ganhasse com um formato ainda mais horizontal e a nitidez não esteja assim tão boa.

Ainda bem que não fizeste como eu nas únicas vezes que estive em Paris, que practicamente não tirei fotografias senão para os álbuns de recordações de família que por sinal nunca organizei. E ainda por cima da última vez até já tinha uma digital... :-( É o que dá/dava não "ter" um TE.

PS: Vi o post do Marc, mas apesar do POV ser quase o mesmo, acho que é uma foto diferente da tua, principalmente porque tem menos profundidade e porque as cores são mais frias. Gosto muito de ambas.

PPS: Não me parece que esteja inclinada, mas acho que, sendo uma panorâmica tão aberta e havendo tantos edifícios e aqueles muros compridos, seja inevitável que a perspectiva possa parecer imperfeita.

I don't get inspired by Paris anymore (I mean it's hard) and for example, I wouldn't think this is A pov I would post. Troubling and interesting then (hope you get my point).

Gosto deste postal ilustrado da Notre Dame. Os reflexos na água ficaram muito bem, a iluminação na catedral está óptima e o casalinho do lado esquerdo dá vida à cena. No entanto, creio que está inclinada para a esquerda. Para mim, o ponto de referência seria a ponte. Experimenta colocar a ponte horizontal e verás a diferença.

The gold and silver colours show up so nicely against the dark of the night. Exposure is spot on, and the DOF is quite impressive and has produced a sharp shot all the way along into the distance. Nicely done.

Being at the eve of organizing a trip to Paris these pictures are very important for me because I can see Paris through the eyes of photographers I know. Of course the blue hour ! But this would be possible for some one who lives in Paris can can you be at all places at the same hour which lasts only 5-10 minutes.
