Photographer's Note

August has gone, along with the long vacation, and furled French flags shadow its leaving. The town councillors of Valence, in Drome department, are back in office, and they need some ceremony to gloss their paper faces. The elders are first on the spot to whisper and twitter about how old-fashioned the elect look, as they re-assemble for a new workyear.

In Valence, Her Worship Mrs Léna Balsan has been the mayor (UMP, right-wing) for two years. She has just been ushered swiftly inside the prefecture, and the spokesman is looking forward to his announcing the prefect's arrival. What a thrill, and how the sun shines to sneer at those dull-faced stiff-lipped proceedings...

Now, we have re-entered the stiffling atmosphere of September. I wish I could watch more blue-arsed flies in the air, but they're now part of the white-haired blues. Blue, White, Red...

Nice contrasts here; good mix of colors and silhouettes. The compo is really good but the PoV needs some improvement. I don't know whether it'd be possible, but I think a low angle certainly helps - to put the granny into more focus and attention. Good job overall.

Hi Francois,
I like the idea for this shot!It is a little experimental with the big difference comes from this old woman on the foreground.Very good eye to catch this.In other way the play with shadows is great here.This is a real interesting daily life scene you must take a photo.Very good work and note!

Very interesting note:). Your composition is very original here. The older woman turning into the photo makes this photo. The look on her face is awesome; what is she thinking, does she like all this or is she thinking how it's a bunch of nonsense? Those questions raised make your photo very effective.
