Photographer's Note

This bridge's architecture, and artistic statues are an exuberant example of the decorative art of the Third republic, named after Tsar Alexandre III, father of Nicolas II, who laid the first stone in 1896, reflecting the special long term relationship between France and Russia. The bridge was completed in two years and inaugurated during the universal exposition of 1900. (Source: Encyclopédie Hachette)

I would like to dedicate this photograph to Professor Bülent Atalay whose appreciation for art is very well known among TE members, as well as among the general public all over the world through his books published in many languages. I have been seeking an occasion to dedicate an image to him. It is absolutely not necessary to go into details about The Renaissance Man. I strongly hope and advise you to visit his gallery. Hello Nobu,
nice the close up view of the Renaissance man as is found on the Tsar Alexandre III bridge.I like the contrast of the colours with the brilliant light of the sky to bring out even more better the details of the statue.I can not understand why in some parts of the statue there are grains created from this expensive camera.

buono il close up che permette di ammirare oltre alla statua anche un tratto di cielo.
Andava a mio parere data una maggior forza al colore nero.

I agree with your dedication to Prof.Bulent, a fantastic man that I had the honor and pleasure to personally know last year. Bulent is a truly extraordinary person, always kind and helpful, but above all is a great man of science and culture. The choice of the subject of the photo was perfect for this dedication, but above all I appreciate the low POV and how you have cropped the image, obtaining a close-up nice and interesting. The expression and the smile of the Renaissance boy are very significant. Excellent work, dear friend, BRAVO!

Hello Nobu - Super POV and good light on the statue reveals the form and volume of the piece very well which gives a 3D aspect to the shot. The sky is the perfect backcloth, it neither competes not distracts. Nice work. Warm wishes Nobu for 2012. Rosemary

Hello Dear Nobu,

I am flattered by the recognition, albeit entirely undeserved. The unusual and very effective vantage point you've chosen to present the sculpture works beautifully. A successful scan has allowed the textures and the curves originally captured in your analogue photo to reveal themselves.There is a leathery color and texture to the bronze statue that is compelling. Leonardo and Michelangelo both made endless studies of light and shadows on curved surfaces. Their idea of "building the body from the inside out" meant that if clothing were draped over the body, the underlying shape would be completely visible.

Thank you very much for the dedication. How can I not file this image away among my favorites. Another one of my favorites was posted by Andrew Coppin. Andrew has not been active in TE in the last few years, but he is a talented photographer, videographer, who happens to be the grandson of Sir Rudolf Peierls. Peierls was the Head of the Department of Theoretical Physics at Oxford, and one of the most brilliant and gracious people I've known.

I still remember the fantastic picture of your from the same bridge. The statue seems to have burst into life, that slightly impish smile on his face accentuated by your low POV against the blue sky. I have never been to this bridge, but next time I'm in Paris, I hope I find time to visit, inspired by this & your other picture. Dear Nobu-san,
I like taking photos of statues (especially statues with fountains). But it is very difficult to find the right POV to show the expressiveness of the artwork. Sometimes it takes much time...
You found an interesting POV to take a closeup shot of the sculpture; besides, the bright sun light helped to create a good DOF and contrast :)
I also like it that the texture /surface of the material of the statue is seen very well! very natural look.

Heheheh great title for this excellent close-up. These statues are iconic and you have created a very original composition. I seem to remember a clseupby Peppe59 of one of these nymphs but with the back turned. Beautiful exposition and chromatic rendering and a lovely dedication to our dear friend Professor Bulent.
