Fouquet and Vaux-le-Vicomte I, a photo from Ile-de-France, North

Photographer's Note

Nicolas Fouquet (1615-1680) conceived the château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, as Superintendent of Finances for Louis XIV (1638-1715) and patron of the arts. The construction of the edifice began in 1656 and was accomplished finally in 1661. Fouquet employed three artistic geniuses and 18,000 men to work in collaboration for the first time on the Baroque château and gardens of Vaux-Le-Vicomte situated 55 km SE of Paris in Melun.

This is the first photo of a series of a dozen images from Vaux-le-Vicomte, the largest private property in France, I hope to present the architecture and its beauty along with a minimum of stories of a man who undertook the creation of this most extraordinary edifice in 17th century France.

The angle of view and the dramatic sky provide a strong atmosphere to this superb castle . The composition is excellent , too , with the statue in the FG .

You choose the significant buildings, the history of France, as the castle and its owner and builder. The view is interesting and spectacular. The colors of the facade and sky are superb. The quality of the production is good. Bravo.

Hello Nobu,
The castle is taken from a good angle with a nice inclusion of the statue and the flowers on the foreground.
The overcast sky also shows a clear part that seems to originate from right behind the castle. This gives even more attention to it.

hi nobu,the colour tones in your picture are fantastic, very rich and textured. the light on the chateau is superb, and really makes the building stand out. the closeness of the statue in the foreground creates a great perspective. there is also incredible drama in the picture, a combination of your viewpoint, the colours, light and shade, and of course the wonderful sky and clouds.

very nice architecture shot you have captured in a cloudy weather...nice play of warm light over the yellow tone architecture...the FG textured statue on the pillar add a dynamism in this image...
nice POV...good light management with nice color contrast & sharpness...

Again an interesting note about this image makes it more interesting. You have presented this beautiful castle in a very nice angle where one can see the whole front facade with all the details and the surrounding area. The statue is very nicely placed in the foreground with the backdrop of the sky. I like the natural colors, textures and lighting. This is the image that is worth seeing many times. Le château est bien mis en valeur par la superbe lumière et les nuages qui semblent l'encadrer. J'aurais aimé me rendre à cet endroit l'été dernier mais le temps a manqué. J'ai bien hâte de découvrir votre série.

Hi Nobu,
The impressive château seem to rise through the mist, as sides of the image are darker that it's center.
Fine view on the facade from lower POV that adds to it's magnitude.
The statue on right gave extra depth on picture.

To begin with I didn't even know of this place. Your picture is fascinating & if I may dare say, one of the best in terms of quality & compostion. The play of the wide lens is delightful here...the subtle falling lines, the radial clouds in the sky. The contrast between the dark sky & the cream tone of the chateau is beautiful, but for me the tour-de resistance has to be the statue on the right!

I am finally catching up to the beginning of this series, Nobu - I adore the way the sky frames the chateau and the slight angling of the view makes it seem even more imposing. That marvelous warm ochre tone has even more impact when set amid the darker shades. Bravo, a wonderful capture which goes way beyond the usual "here is a chateau" approach!
