Le triomphe de Louis.

Cet arc de triomphe, érigé par la ville de Montpellier en 1691, symbolise la puissance de la royauté, c'est à dire de Louis XIV.

Il coûta à Montpellier 11 850 livres et nécessita 120 m3 de pierres venant des garrigues voisines.
On peut y lire une inscription en latin, à la gloire de Louis XIV, qui traduite en français signifie "Louis le Grand, dont le règne dura soixante-douze ans, a apporté la paix sur terre et sur mer après avoir séparé, contenu et s'être attaché à des peuples alliés dans une guerre de quarante années ".

C'est un des beaux monuments de Montpellier qui termine l'avenue Foch, emplie d’immeubles de style haussmannien. Il ouvre la promenade du Peyrou dotée d'une statue équestre de Louis XIV et de l'arrivée de l'aqueduc St Clément, dit des arceaux.

On peut visiter cet arc de triomphe et depuis la promenade du Peyrou, on dispose d'un joli point de vue sur la ville.

I think this would be the first time I see your pictures on TE. Better late than never.
Wondrful symmetry achieved with good DOF and clear sight of the arch.
Details are shown immaculately, from the road side buildings and throgh to the far side yet another monument.

A great view of this Arc de Triomphe. I really like its warm colours and the French flag on top. The monument in the background is nicely seen framed by the arch. You had a lovely lighting as well. Great work!

quel arche comme celui de Paris mains un peu plus petite quelle vue et compo ces tons et couleurs avec le contraste de tons sur le décoration et quelle vue au travers de l'arche quelle image et captage sueprbe compo.

This less famous Arch of Triumph is also beautiful and was captured with very good light and colors! The perspective is also very nice, and the French flag stands out beautifully in this view! Very good job!

Ce superbe Arc de Triomphe a fait l'objet d'une belle toilette, l'on dirait qu'il vient d'être érigé !
Il rappelle celui de Paris (Place Charles de Gaulle) en apparence.
Cette perspective est parfaite comme la note d'accompagnement.

great presentation of the arch. I like photographing arches and even created my own theme for it HERE.

I have never been to Montpellier, in fact I don't recall ever seeing a photo from this town. I know a person coming from there.

Great central symmetry, so very suitable for the arch. I like the presence of the flag as well. Very charming and decorative.
