From the platform at the top of the Baleines lighthouse at the end of the Île de Ré, you can enjoy a bird's-eye view of the Vieille Tour des Baleines, a defensive tower built in 1862 to observe any attackers from the island and the commercial and military port of Rochefort on the mainland coast a stone's throw from the island.

Hello jean,

Wow, this is a great viewpoint to show buildings from an unusual angle and clearly show their relationship with the sea.
The details are crisp and the colours well saturated.
This is an unusual but good separation into thirds.

Bonjour Jean,
Two subjects realized on this beautiful high point picture: the old tower fromn above with the green garden surrounding. Than, I look at the sea and there is a checkered pattern of the currents which most probably the water come from two sides out & off the island. The old Baleines found at 46.266, -1.587 on the map.

A good downward pov from the new lighthouse overlooking the old tower and the beach. Marvellous colour & good sharpness and saturation. The stormwater drains add symmetry. Tfs!

Hello Jean,
Wow, what a fantastic view from the lighthouse with the low buildings and the old tower well placed in the middle. The green foreground and the beach in the middle, but most of all the blue water and white waves in the background are the most perfect surroundings. The shadow of the lighthouse is another great addition to the composition.

Bonjour Jean,
Belle composition avec le chemin menant à la vieille tour et un brise-lames dans la mer de chaque côté.
La combinaison de couleurs de la mer bleue avec des vagues blanches, des toits roses et de l'herbe verte et des arbres est très bonne.
Magnifique aussi avec l'ombre du phare.

The tower is interesting, they could have used it as a lighthouse, too. I assume those jetties were built to minimize beach erosion.

Beautiful view indeed. It feels a bit unexpected because the tower near a coast makes me think that it is the highest structure there but luckily you had even higher viewpoint from the lighthouse.
Beautiful light and colors. I like the subtle waves on the sea.

Bonjour Jean, a fantastic vantage point from which to photograph the old tower below.
Are people allowed into the tower, climb up and get an alternative view from there?
I like that there is the shadow from the lighthouse in the shot too.
The sea is beautiful with gentle waves breaking as they reach the shore.
