Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I return today to the Valley of the Saints in Carnoet to share an unusual piece of carving. This huge foot is situated at the entrance to this area of gigantic carvings, pointing in the direction you need to travel.
You may wonder why I have titled it "Twelve Inches". Well, in our old Imperial measurements, before we went metric, twelve inches was equal to one foot! 😆
I was going to present this in monochrome but then changed my mind. I will place the monochrome example in my workshop.
For further information about the Valley of Saints, please see my earlier photographs.
I hope you all stay safe today. A red alert in in operation in the U.K. as Storm Eunice is beginning to batter the south coast with winds of 100 miles an hour, lashing the sea into huge waves. I believe it may eventually be crossing the channel to Northern Europe, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
György will probably prefer the WS, but I am perfectly happy with the original version. I think it's a great sculpture. Perhaps not the most fabulous work of art I have ever seen, but it's amusing and a very original signpost. As usual the inclusion of people explains the dimensions (a lot more than twelve inches).
It seems the storm will only reach southern Sweden and the southern Baltic Sea. In Stockholm we have a beautiful sunny day with 2 °C and no forecast of strong winds.
Best regards,
Gert

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled i trenutak, interesantan tekst ...

HI Bev,
The branches are framing well the sculpture. The point of view is showing the details of the sculpture of the foot. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
It is a really good photo of this sculpture of such a giant foot and the two people at right are very well included to show just how big the foot really is. The overhanging trees are a good addition as well and add a nice pattern of shadows.

Hi Beverley
Clever title, how you can see things like this so many times without realising the photographic element to them. The visitors give us the scale, very well spotted and taken.
Best regards

Hello Beverley,
My preference goes to the colour photo.
I would prefer not to have my toes kicked by the owner of this foot.
Beautifully presented with the overhanging leaves.
The two admirers give a good idea of the dimensions of the foot.
Now it's sunny and quiet where I live but storm Eunice has swept across the country with one dead, some seriously injured and a lot of damage.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,
I have heard that some people want to get back to old measures in the UK after Brexit. I would be completely lost.
Charming presentation, the presence of people is so important for scale here. Excellent work,
M

Dear Beverley,
I have to admit that I was never able to fully understand the logic of the old Imperial measures. Similarly the old currency changing ratios (before the modern GBP) was a enigma for me.
Anyhow the photo is good. Maybe the BW is even better, because in my view colours don't add much in this case.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Bev
Looks like someone discovered a part of the Colossus of Rhodes or a gigantic Ancient Egyptian statues foot and shipped it back to France. Still have decided which shot I should upload of a huge Ramesses statue in Memphis. I shot the top, side and bottom but aren't happy with any of them. All with a wide angled lens. Might post all 3 one of these days. Tfs!

BEV
a curious sculpture. I presume the artist used a natural block to create the feet and the back part became not so much fitted.
nice WS showing the B&W version.
Here in Brazil we are facing drought in the south and many rain and floods in central Brazil where the rain are closed.
I am not sure if you saw images of petropolis, the imperial city of brazil, destroyed by a giant storm. watch the video bellow, wait the end of add and the reporter speech:

Hello Bev,
I like surrealism, and this giant foot fits the bill. :-) It's quite a contrast to see some "normal sized" people strolling in front of the foot, and for it too have so much detail. The nails are all short and neat, too!

Hello Beverly,
Now, those are twelve very long inches, a child could fit under the toes.
