Teeth of the sea..., a photo from Haute-Normandie, North

Photographer's Note

For those which know, I am in top of cliffs of Etretat, on the side of the small vault and I photograph the beach downwards
It is the first time (and the last) which I saw that
In fact, of the furrows in the rollers had been dug by the sea with the preceding tide
And rising tide, the sea made pretty geometrical figures
The sea had teeth there this day ;o)

Oh là, là Patrice, elle est géniale celle-là! C'est incroyable ce tracée étrange de l'eau sur la plage. Magnifique comme point de vue, en hauteur comme ça, avec ces personnages mignatures aux ombres allongées outre mesure! Eh bien, bravo!

Tellement simple et tellement fort! Ce n'est pas tout d'avoir la chance de voir un tel phénomène, encore faut-il avoir le talent pour le capturer aussi poétiquement. Belle composition, la présence des gens (et de leurs ombres) est un vrai plus. Bravo!

Heu? Salut Patrice, c'est amusant pour ne pas dire incroyable. Moi qui suis naît au bord de mer et y ait passé toute mon enfance/jeunesse etc, je n'ai jamais vu une forme aussi régulière (et pourtant les portos s'y connaissent en dentelles..bref). Bien vu et composé.

What a composition, what a capture, Patrice! Mmmm... I have never seen anything of the sort, neither in real life nor in National Geographic, this is something utterly unique to me... it's all the more powerful a shot as you have all the tiniest of humans staring out to see... which is just to show our place in the universe.

What an amazing picture. I could not figure it at first, then I realised the the beach is actually a series of ridges and the waves are going into the troughs between them.
Your composition is superb, the way you have almost half sea / half beach, and the people are so small. Wonderful.

I have never seen before a so geometrical and strange effect on the beach. You really caught well the beauty that could be around us if we only be careful of looking at it.

La mer est coupée au ciseau cranté. En dessous, la pièce de tissus précédente, elle est de couleur sable et il y a des petites peluches dessus :-))

composition très étonnante, avec en plus les personnages où il faut pour en accentuer le rythme.
...et justement, peut être un peu trop d'accentuation sous photoshop sur celle-ci, ce qui "durcit" la surface et la matière de l'eau mais ça passe très bien avec la dureté des formes en dents de scie.

Ces dents de la mer sont surprenantes, je n'avais jamais vu ça!
Ta compo est superbe avec ces deux parties de l'image séparées par cet arrondi. Les couleurs sont belles, la lumière aussi et la preésence de personnes donne l'échelle. C'est que du bonheur!

I just can say "What an impressive view of a beach!" I have seen many beaches, but I have never seen the waves finishing its long route like this way. Very good having the people walking and fishing, they give us the real scale and dimensions of all the view. My congratulations for this very clear and unusual shot.

Hello Patrice. Very nicely captured, beatifull multiple, S lines of those sea teeths. People on the beach give us really nice perspective how big this teeths are but I lack some other detail which would catch my eye for more than a few moments. Of course this is the decisive moment picture, and superb one to mention, so thumbs up.

Si je n'étais jamais allé à Etretat, je croirais que c'est une manipulation par photoshop. Excellent cadrage, les personnages donnent une bonne idée de l'échelle.

Bonjour Patrice,
The POV is ideal and the overall "teeth" effect captured very well. In my opinion, what really transforms this photo to a masterpiece are the stances and postures of the persons in the cadre! Even by being so far away, only the inclination of their bodies makes the photo so dynamic!

Perhaps a little more contrast could have made it even more emphatic in that aspect... Nevertheless, congratulations!
