Photographer's Note

I don't know how many time I staid on that Cape.

I just remember I spent something like 30 minutes to shoot a first serie. There was no sun and it was pretty dark. I came back to my car, frozen and salted. Suddenly the sun appeared and I hesitated to get out of the car, but I finally made it. I started a new serie, in the sun.

I think I was lucky to have this light...

Attention le 300 D n'apprécie pas les embruns comme tous les appareils photos.
Chapeau pour avoir supporté le froid et l'eau la récompense était bien méritée.
J'apprécie la mer démontée et je rage de n'avoir jamais vu une mer déchainée depuis très longtemps.

I like this shot a lot. The incredible lighting first caught my eye, but on looking at the picture in more detail the composition is beautifully balanced and the blurring of the waves crashing over the sea wall is excellent. What shutter speed were you using?

This light in such a dark weather makes this scene unreal. Every detail is excellent, no word is needed. But I like that poor seagull at most, trying to fly such a windy and dark and wet (and salty as you said) weather. Thanks for sharing..

Le courage a payé, c'est une photo qui décoiffe !
J'aime cette lumière qui vient aprés les nuages elle est souvent divine et tu l'as bien captée. Le phare au garde-à-vous devant la vague qui meurt à ses pieds c'est du très beau !

Merci de t'être un peu gelé pour nous!. Les couleurs sont grandioses. La lumière est très belle. Malgré une vitesse d'obturation rapide les embruns sont biens saisis et donnent bien l'idée de mouvement et de force. Le ciel est également très beau.

Ca ce sont des moments qui font plaisir, parce qu'ils sont rares, la vague est naturellement au bon moment et les contrastes donnent l'ambiance. Bravopour le reflet et les lumières.

The sunlight that lited part of the lighthouse is very well captured. And to add more action onto it, you got the wave crashing onto the seafront wall. And to give it a more dramatic feeling, you got mother nature's help by providing that gloomy weather.

une image fantastique, des conditions dantesques mais tu as bien fais de ressortir.
Tu te trouves bien près du bord, est-ce bien raisonnable ?
Pour pinailler, je regrette un peu la surexposition de la vague mais vu le fort contraste, je pense qu'il était impossible de faire mieux.
Quelle ambiance !!!

You are right that the sun is going to make the difference. Indeed it is the contrasting atmosphere of the bright sun rays and the overcast lower sky that is creating so much excitement and action. Your timing was perfect as the wave swept in and broke,you also have a nice well balanced composition.However the downside is the large ammount of contrast in the shot that really does let the overall feel down.

nice capture. the colors are very saturated and most work, but I might suggest toning down the blue a bit in PS. I think Blue that strong is distracting and breaks the reality of the shot, IMO. I like the rest, and the wave is great.

C'est l'histoire d'une belle photo et de comment parfois ça tient à rien de passer de pas grand chose à des conditions exceptionnelles. Et là, c'est le cas: la vague, la lumière, un bout de ciel bleu au zénith et ce phare entre lumière et ténèbres. Du grand art ! Tu as bien fait de refaire une série.

Ouch Stéphane, je ne l'avais jamais vu cette photo, et c'est avec plaisir que je la découvre ! Elle est terrible !! Les contrastes sont puissants et bien dosés, la composition avec ce phare décalé sur la droite, la lourdeur du ciel qui est superbement lissé, la scène avec cette interception de vague est absolument magnifique, c'est de loin la meilleure photo que j'ai vu aujourd'hui :)

At first it seems blurred but on reflection it suits the photo a nice soft effect and great atmoshere. By the way how do you do the blue highlight clicky thingy! I'm a nerd so don't have a clue and its very good idea to do things this way

Oui, la lumière est incroyable, et la force de la vague est très bien représentée ici. Le ciel bleu au dessus rend le tout un peu surréaliste... C'est "extra", comme d'hab !
