Photographer's Note

The island of Hiddensee is a place of longing for many Germans. Situated in the Baltic Sea beneath bigger Rügen island, Hiddensee was difficult to reach for a long time, so a place almost perfectly insulated from everyday's rush and activity. Nobel prize laureate Gerhard Hauptmann lived - and was buried - here, as well as many painters.
The pretty church with its painted interior does not have a steeple (perhaps a reminder that it was derived from a cistercian monastery), the bells are installed directly above the entrance.
