Photographer's Note
It’s one of the doors of St. Nikolai Church, in Hamburg.
This church is still one of the most famous and impressive monuments in the city. One of the oldest mediaeval churches in the city, it has been vastly destroyed by the flames of a big fire in 1842 and later most part of the building fell down with the attacks of the II World War. Only a part of the walls and the tower have remained but the Church hasn’t been rebuilt after that, as if to remind us of the effects of war. Today, all the space is exactly a memorial against war. Everything reminds us of the war and there are lots of statues and memorials against war. It’s impossible not to think about peace here.
What we see in the photo is the part of the building that has resisted. Inside, another door leads us to the tower that is now equipped with a modern lift that takes us to the top. It’s one of the highest place in Hamburg and the view we have from the top is magnificent.

Hi Ana
A very nice compo and well cropped scene.I like the misty view through the doors. Perhaps a bit darker would be even better. So i did a ws to see what would change.
But I like the picture.
take care, Albrecht

Bom dia Ana,
great look into the open church. The lightened interior maybe symbolic. But in my opinion it is too light. I have made a little WS to fix it.
I hope you don't mind.
Kind regards,
Roland

Hi Ana,
Nice shot, although the walls are dark and gates are narrow for a church, outside light on the floor made it more near to a holy place.
I like to see complete front arc, (if you have a shot)
thanks for sharing

Great shot. Good idea for such kind of composition. Thanks to lack of any people, my imagination tells me that a monk willcome out in a second. A really good one

Hey Ana,
Lovely DOF, exquisite details, a very sacred and peaceful place indeed. I like the way the light 'mystifies' the scene as you enter the impressive door as if 'follow the bright light' kinda thing...Beautiful church!
Cheers!

Hello Anabela,
I like this image of st. Nikolai Church very much. The half-open door offers a mysterious and alluring appeal. The doors are both exquisite and rugged, and open up into a well-lit chamber. It is truly wonderful shot!
Moeover, you are correct, I am the photographer of "Petros" on the island of Mykonos, and the author of 'Math and the Mona Lisa.' The book came out in English just two years ago, but it has already been (or will be) translated to nine other languages. A Brazilian Publisher purchased the rights to translate it into Portuguese. (My name is Bulent, but my trekearth label is "batalay"). Many thanks for the gracious critique of the waves pounding Mykonos. That was the home of Petros.
