Photographer's Note

Itís one of the doors of St. Nikolai Church, in Hamburg.
This church is still one of the most famous and impressive monuments in the city. One of the oldest mediaeval churches in the city, it has been vastly destroyed by the flames of a big fire in 1842 and later most part of the building fell down with the attacks of the II World War. Only a part of the walls and the tower have remained but the Church hasnít been rebuilt after that, as if to remind us of the effects of war. Today, all the space is exactly a memorial against war. Everything reminds us of the war and there are lots of statues and memorials against war. Itís impossible not to think about peace here.
What we see in the photo is the part of the building that has resisted. Inside, another door leads us to the tower that is now equipped with a modern lift that takes us to the top. Itís one of the highest place in Hamburg and the view we have from the top is magnificent.
