King Size

This narrow street (Schloßstraße) in the centre of Dresden runs on the other side of Dresden Castle (Dresdner Residenzschloss) than from where I took my previous post. The banner reading “King Size” advertises the reopened and restored state apartments in the castle. The tower in the central background is part of Dresden Cathedral (Katholische Hofkirche), which was also in my first picture from the city.

Hej Lars,
Jag kan tänka mig att det mesta vi ser här inte ens är 50 år gammalt, fast det ser så äkta 1700-talsmässigt ut. Jag var här för drygt 50 år sedan, men jag minns inte mycket mer än stenhögen som varit Frauenkirche. Detta är en vältagen bild av en fin gata med sommarklädda människor.

Hi Lars,

Smart choice of a vertical format to accentuate the height of the bg tower poking up above the buildings in the bg. I tried a shot of that building but the result was so-so. The street adds linear perspective. Tfs!

Wonderfully placed the tower above the street scenery, Lars.
A beautifuil style of the reconstructed buildings after WW2.

Hello Lars, this viewpoint makes me feel as if I am there, with the tall buildings dominating the street.
Each of the buildings are quite different in style.
Enough people to animate the scene without marring the view.

Quite grand architecture. I'm not so well aware about historical importance of Dresden. But obviously this is a significant place. Good view of a peaceful old town corner. Vertical framing fits well.

Om het even wat u maakt in de Duitse steden het zijn altijd bijzonder mooie foto's.
U maakt diepte en perspectief
Maar ook de gevels van de gebouwen worden perfect weergegeven.
Het torentjes geeft nog een extra punch aan uw foto.

Hello Lars,

This is a fine angle on the street, so that we get a straight view on one side and a more leisurely view on the other, meaning that we arrive at a very strong vanishing point in the distance.
You have gathered some very sharp details of the buildings and their pediments, whilst the dome of the cathedral is very strongly positioned, against the skyline.

It looks like a good place for pedestrians to walk safely, as many are in the centre of the road.

Hi Lars,
very well spotted street scene. The architecture is attractive all around. People so lightly dressed and today we had a freezing day in England so it feels almost strange looking at people in short sleves.
King size makes me think about the Augustus who supposedly fathered so many children. Some poeple say that the size matters...

Dresden lijkt me een stad waar je ontelbare prachtige foto's kan nemen.
Heel de linkerzijde van deze straat is ontzettend fotogeniek.
Mooie compositie met de opeenvolgende geveltoppen die ons naar de toren leiden.
Ik zie dat er redelijk wat gefietst wordt in Dresden.

I love well-maintained cobblestone streets. The buildings are well-preserved and the Mercedes Benz CLS 450 is a pretty addition to the scenery.
