Ioannina, the lake and the village, a photo from Ioannina, Epirus

Photographer's Note

In this photo you can see a big part of Ioannina (town of the jewellers), the capital of the region of Epirus, a town with a very important history, especially during the years of the Ottoman Empire. There is a modern vibrant part, but also a picturesque old part inside a big castle and lots of monuments to see there, including two beautiful mosques. Today the town has a population of around 100.000 people, among them more than 20.000 students that study at its famous university ang give the tone to the vibrant cultural and night- life. There is also a beautiful lakeside road, ideal for evening romantic walks, especially when fog makes its appearance.

You can also see part of the lake and its island, the only inhabited lake island in Greece. The village on the island is also beautiful with an atmosphere of old times. There you can taste delicious snales and frogfeet.

Picture postcard perfect. I love the colour of the water and the dramatic sky. The moon is the icing on the cake for me. There is a little noise around the outline of the hills but this is a minor complaint about an otherwise excellent image.

Qué luz más fantástica y qué tres segundos más bien aprovechados.
Además, el cielo, con esas nubes y la luna acaban de regalarnos una foto preciosa.

Beautiful work Hercules,

I like this overview, the city across the lake seems nice, very atmospheric, all the lights, they seem to make a foggy atmosphere over the city, as if it's glowing. To me it's a nice appearance, I have the feeling the city is full of life.
I also like the hills in the background and sky above, with the moon visible, but very tiny in the frame, nice detail.
And ofcourse also like this island (hey I'm an islandsfan) in front, details of houses and streets are better visible there, nice different light colours and a welcome addition to the scene, creating more interest. I think the longer exposure also did something nice for the appearance of the water, seems very calm. Good POV and nice compo, very good overview of this place. Thanks for sharing it with us.

this is really stunning. The overall gold-red tones in the sky and reflected in the water are just so striking and make the shot extremely unique. The dented and rythmic reflectiones and tones on the surface of the water make the shot so dynamic and reveal nice strong contrasts. Really wonderful point of view and excellent framing to get a sense of scenery.
