Photographer's Note

This is the old acueduct, known as 8 Kamares (arches) about a 100 metres above Metaxohori, one of the most beautiful villages in Larissa Prefecture. It is located on the slopes of Kissavos mountain and this year was in grave danger because of a fire that stopped no more that 50 metres from the village.

The man sitting on the acueduct is called Haris Tzikas and he was my "guide" in the region. Although his studies and overall culture are excellent he chose the life of a farmer and cartographer. He knows the whole Thessaly like the back of his hand. His maps are unique, all handmade a mixture of cartography and painting.

He is the kind of man I really admire. Although he could be a very rich man, he chose a humble way of life, and has stuck to his ideals, no matter if the time passes. Usually you can find him around evening sitting and enjoyng a glass of good wine, in a beautiful guesthouse called "Arhontiko Soulioti", in Metaxohori.
