Höfn, a photo from Austur-Skaftafellssysla, Asturland

Photographer's Note

We arrived at mid day in Höfn. With its 1,600 inhabitants it is the main town in the south east of Iceland. The main economic activity are fishing (in particular lobster fishing) and tourism (Höfn is the south gate to wonderful Eastern Fjords area). While our guide bought food in a supermarket, we had a few minutes to visit the city and its port. There is no valuable architecture here, but I found there was a kind of magic in the air here. Maybe because of the wonderful scenerye : the city sits on a point with the sea on western, southern and eastern sides, while the north is surrounded by mountains. Probably the great light we had contributed to make this atmosphere. Anyway, I loved the few minutes we stayed here before continuing our route to the Eastern Fjords. Here is a photo of the Höfn port with a beautiful light and one of my cotravelers on a pier in the port.

What a contrast, Olivier!
I am talking of the placement of boats in this image viz other boat shots on TE. Amazing!
The visibility here is awesome. This image is far ahead of other snap shots of boats in composition, colours and presence of human life.
A complete package for tourists.

Hello Olivier,
The reflections on the water are lovely. The middle band of warm colors separates the lower and upper cold regions with aesthetic appeal. Very well seen and marvelously rendered.

Hello Olivier. Yes, that is Iceland. It is a mix of rain, fog, wind and sunshine. At the port of Hofn and the colorful boats and houses I remember very well. The composition is perfect. Overall a great photo.

Quel contraste entre ce ciel chargé et les éléments colorés du second plan.Ça claque et je pense que pour un passionné d'images il était impossible de ne pas déclencher.Bien vu ce jaune rouge vert.

Très belle image portuaire avec ces couleurs vives qui tranchent avec le ciel bas et les montagnes noires partiellement enneigées de l'arrière plan. Atmosphère de sérénité.

Yes, I know about Hofn, but we didn't go East past the famous Glacier Park...
we plan to re-visit Iceland again and do the northern areas.

I've heard that there really isn't much to see or do in Hofn, but then again everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

you captured an amazing light and atmosphere here, as it brightens up the boats in a spectacular manner.

Stunning shot Olivier - The light, the colours are superb. I love the way the mountains look cold and forbidding while the FG looks wonderfully colourful and cheerful. Beautiful contrast. Warm regards Rosemary
