Photographer's Note
Iceland Waterfalls are perhaps the country's most recognizable series of attractions. They're everywhere! Its collection of waterfalls rivals any other country in sheer power and raw beauty. The falls range from powerful and wide river-type monsters like Dettifoss, Gullfoss, and Gođafoss to tall and narrow ones like Glymur, Háifoss, and Hengifoss. Moreover, the country sports classic waterfalls such as the rectangular Skógafoss as well as unique waterfalls such as the trapezoidal Dynjandi. And these are just the famous ones! There are countless other waterfalls tumbling by the Ring Road as well as many more that don't even have formal names!
The waterfall Skógafoss is situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded seaward (it is now at a distance of about 5 km from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometers, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland. The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of the country with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Ţrasi Ţórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again.
I have captured this place during my previous visit to Iceland but I surely could not miss it during the last trip. This time I got the bonus rainbow and a lovely couple standing at perfect place to give the whole scene a scale.

Hi Lucie.
Wonder why I have not seen any of your photos before...
You have some amazing pictures and have visited so many great places! Iceland is one of my favorite countries, and Skógafoss is one of the most beautiful locations there. I've seen many fantastic images from that waterfall, but this is DEFINITELY one of the best. With 4 secs you get a perfect blur on the blue water. The image is beautifully composed with the people giving perspective, and also a rainbow topping it! Superb work, like most of your gallery!
Best regards,
Fredrik

hello Lucie, great picture, the couple on the left bottom corner gives the idea of the dimensions of the waterfall, then the rainbow add the definitive touch, proper use of long exposure also, but I have a question, how did you managed to keep the people frozen for 4 seconds!?

Hello Lucie - Great to see another of your lovely shots. No wonder you wanted to go back to this dream location. The rainbow and pink jacket add just the right splash of colour to the composition. And yes.... how did you managed to get the figures fairy sharp with such a long exposure? Best regards Rosemary
