Photographer's Note
This is a beach where there are many basalt formations next to it. The sand there was black and actually quite hard. The wave there was quite strong as well and the water was " foamy", which I found it quite interesting.
Further away from the beach was a cliff and a religious building( not really sure which religion it was). A very nice place to visit as well =D
It think this beach is an ideal place for geographers as many coastal processes occur in that area.

Hi Clare. This photograph has a lot of potential, but I suspect the reason you didn't get a lot of critiques is the markedly tilted horizon. You should try to keep your horizons level unless you are tilting the image for a particular artistic effect (which doesn't usually apply to landscapes). Also, as part of the sky is over exposed, it would have been best to crop that out. I have posted a version in the workshop (with a few other adjustments) to show you what a good image this could have been. Cheers . . . David

Hi, Clare!
I like the sunglare a lot... And, of course, all of the rest!... And itīs a damn shame you only get one critique for it!!! (second edit: And I have seen a lot of worse pictures receiving more critiques. And: critiques could have talked about what could have done better!)

Clare i like this shot. The place is beautiful. The horizon can be better but the exposition and the other elements were great.
Congratulations!

Hi Clare - fascinating formations, and the direct light makes a wonderful shiny effect on the water, the tilt is unfortunate.

It is indeed a good place for geographers, geologists and any tourist wanting to see a very beautiful place.
About this particular photo. Its very noisy, which of course canīt be avoided if you donīt have a camera that can give better resolution. I have been at this place durig almost identical conditions and chose to make several photos from similar angles. Moreover I agree with banyanmans helpful tips and WS. Rotating and excluding the distracting overexposed clouds around the sun etc improved the image. The clouds certainly destroy the harmony of the scenery IMHO. Another choise would have been to underexpose the photo at the time like this.
Best regards,

Hi Clare,
it is an interesting shot with beautiful details and a gret lightning.
I shouldn't mention the horizon because others did before. But this image would be perfect with a saturation and a str8 line at the horizon.
Anyway I like it!
