Photographer's Note

The geological impacts of glacial and volcanic activity are truly remarkable in Thingvellir. The North American and European plates are moving apart here, at a rate of about 1 mm per year. The floor of the rift was formed by volcanic action and it is relatively thin and is sinking, also at about 1 mm per year. The picture shows a part of the wall of lava which is part of the North American plate.

Again another fantastic composition, this special island, a great POV that offers foreground, these waters between the ice and snow, while in the background we see the nice contrast to the steep slope of lava, with more snow to the top and emphasizing more dark of it, in the irregularities of its top.
Very nice palette.
Good sharpness and optimum lighting.

Looks cold! I like the reflections in the icy water and the superb sharpness. The black volcanic rocks add a nice graphic element and their tones contrast well against the white snow. Terrific textural details in the fg snow. Well framed and composed. Tfs.

Gritty and impacty, I like the way the sun has lit up the basalt cliff in this shot and the shadows show off the texture & contrast well but this give me the chills -reading your notes- to see how steep those cliffs are, plus the seismic activity! Rather scary but great for photos! Superb shot, Congrats
