Black Beach far away, a photo from Vestur-Skaftafellssysla, Sudurland

Photographer's Note

I have shown already the basalt stacks in the black beach of Reynisdrangar.
A few kilometers by road to the west, on the other side of a shallow bay, is Dyrhólaey. The views from near the lighthouse are really magnificent, especially if someone is so lucky with the weather as I was. You can see the view from the same place but in the opposite direction here.

More impressive is Bigger beta picture.

Dyrhólaey Peninsula is a 120-metre promenade famed for its staggering views of Iceland’s South Coast, as well as its historic lighthouse and wealth of birdlife. It is home to a rock arch of the same name.

Dyrhólaey, which translates to Door Hill Island, is of volcanic origin and was once an island before joining up to the Icelandic mainland. In ancient times, passing sailors used to refer to Dyrhólaey as ‘Cape Portland’.

It is also the southernmost part of the Icelandic mainland, making it a popular stop for sightseers travelling along the Ring Road, and can be found close by the coastal village of Vík í Mýrdal.

Hello Malgo,
Despite the sun it looks so cold and windy, but what a fascinating scenery. This is another very sharp and bright photo with not so many colours but beautiful tones of blue and lots of shades of white and grey.

This coastal landscape although quite desolate is truly beautiful. Excellent composition with a great sense of depth. Perfectly exposed with superb colours and sharpness.

The wideness of the sea is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the black beach and of the cliffs newar it. The light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Quelle soit noire ou blanche cette plage au loin semble encore un brin trop froide pour s'y installer pour la journée. Mais quel beau paysage nordique avec juste assez de neige pour le plaisir des yeux.

What an amazing landscape, which is very well balanced between the sea and the beautiful shapes of the snowy land. The light was fantastic and added some nice warm tones in combination with the deep blue sea and sky. Very well done.

Malgorzata, that snow covered beach free of human settlements is a jewel of Iceland coast. The place is very wild. Beautiful nature picture with good sharpness, fine blue colors

This is also a beautiful beach, but the water must be much colder than on the beach of my photo for sure! The high POV is fantastic to show that, and the light is also very good here! I like the contrast of the snow with the deep blue sky! Wonderful job!

Hi Malgo,

Brrrr! I think I prefer the Greek Islands or Amalfi Coast for swimming. But this wild and desolate coastline has a stark beauty all of its own. Tfs!
