Photographer's Note
Another big surprise for visitors to Iceland has this awesome place, where the land and the bubbling sulfur yellow color depicts the land. Beautiful jets of steam and bubbling mud that make a show truly unique and unforgettable.
Hverarönd is an area near Myvatn in the northeastern part of Iceland. The area has a lot of geothermal energy which shows itself in the form of bubbling pools of grey mud and sulphur. As a result of this the area smells rather strongly of sulphur but experiencing the almost alien-like landscape is well worth the smell.
See the steam from the ground in backlight in the WS too!

Hi Luciano
Iceland is a blessed country. Although it is not a suitable climate for crops to grow, it is the best climate for humans who like cold, fjord, and extremely pleasant climates. Due to cheap geothermal power generation, per capita electricity consumption is the largest in the world. It's a country that I'm really envious of. The location in that picture is probably part of the volcanic zone. Plants cannot grow where there is a lot of sulfur.

Hi Luciano
Great summer shot depicting a country of extreme contrast. Minus the smell this looks like the wild wild west, full of colour and valuable detail. Well done

Salut Luciano,
Superbe vue de ce désert volcanique avec ces étonnants phénomènes de géothermie, la vue de quelques silhouettes donne une échelle au paysage, bien aussi les pierres en avant-plan, cela donne des ombres et du contraste à la présentation. Merci du partage.

Hello Luciano,
This looks like Algeria to me. ;-) Yes, Iceland is truly a strange and different country, presently attracting thousands of visitors to the ongoing volcanic eruption with burning lava floating out of cracks in the ground. We see the steam better in the WS, but generally this is a more appealing composition.
Best regards,
Gert

Ciao Caro Luciano,
I would never have guessed this as Iceland! I looks like desert!
The colours are so subtly colour coordinated and the textures extraordinarily well captured. Though appearing arid, your photograph gives the landscape a very beautiful flow.
Of course, the w/s reveals the activity from underground.
Iceland is a very volcanic country. Its newest volcano has been frequently erupting this year!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Ciao Luciano,
I love desert and volcanic landscapes they are so barren, moon-like, unearthly!
Brilliant effect here as well with the presence of people helping us to better imagine the scale.
Great light and colors, and I would indeed never guess it is Iceland. I would think this is one of your Morocco photos...
From the UK we have just few countries we are allowed to travel for holidays, Portugal is one but also Iceland is on the list so I checked the options there but in addition to being very expensive there is so much to do there. You probably need to drive around the island for which a week may be not enough...

If I had to guess I would not have said Iceland. Very special landscape image where the people spread through eh frame give the scale

hello luciano
This is an amazing photo of sulphur rich mud pools in this mountainous region...I hope the region is safe in terms of air quality to breathe as too much sulphur compounds intake in lungs can be disastrous...
The picture is really sharp with a good colour and light management

Hi Luciano,
I didn't recognize sulfur tones. But this landscape looks great anyway. Sand has lighter tones here than in many parts of Iceland where black basalt dominates. Steam in the WS is impressive, but as a landscape this main shot is more beautiful.

we can think about sahara desert, but this place is really colder. in some aspects remind me the same thermal sources I saw in atacama desert, but they have more plants. beautiful view.

Hello Luciano,
I probably wouldn't have guessed this was Iceland if I hadn't read where you took this photo. A beautiful landscape. The smooth hills make a great background as well and the weather was perfect.

Hi Luciano
I have only seen such sights in New Zealand, along with Yellowstone, one of the 2 other major geothermal sites in addition to Iceland. Superb warm cold colour contrasts and sharpness. Tfs!

A polar desert in Iceland? How odd... but well shown this remote earth formation, Luciano.
Remnants of sulfur are evident upon the soil, the WS post with the geiseres also intriguing stuff. Good scale with people around, fine clear photo.
My best regards,
Ike

Ciao Luciano,
Poderia ser um deserto na América do Norte ou do Sul, na África ou até uma cratera na lua. De qualquer forma é uma linda foto com ótimas cores e contrastes. Eu aprecio muito este tipo de foto e lugar. Belo trabalho.
Parabéns

Hi Luciano.
Wow ... I would never have succeeded in locating this landscape in Iceland, it looks more like the great deserts of the world, the color contrast of the plain with the hills in the background is very beautiful, in other places volcanic eruptions also leave large Lava rocks that are not seen here, the impression is more sandy.
Wonderful colors in soft tones, excellent sharpness and splendid light.
Very well done. I like very much.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Luciano,
I wouldn't tell it was taken on Iceland. I would rather say it was taken in the Sahara. Anyhow, its a nicely done landscape.
Best Wishes,
Gy
PS: Thank you for your kind words on my latest photo! And I'm really happy that you can re-open with those tables identical to those on my photo. I wish you good luck and a lot of tourists.

Hello Luciano,
Scenes like we find in the picture in the WS I've seen in the Atacama desert in Chile. I remember the steam was seen only early in the morning. When the air heats up, the steam is no longer visible. Same in Iceland?
I find these landscapes particularly fascinating.
I like such arid landscapes and wouldn't mind the smell of sulphur.
The rocks in the foreground of your main picture and the visitors spread over the photo ensure good depth in the image.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Luciano, two very informative pictures.
It is almost a lunar landscape. Once again the figures provide us with the scale of the place.
I am surprised that you haven't shared these pictures before now. Thanks for sharing now!
Kind regards, Jean.
