For my last posting for this series from Ireland (I'll come back to other counties some other time) a photo taken from the ferry that takes you out to Inishmore in the Aran Islands. The ferry sails past the island of Inishmaan and these photos were taken from a distance and the colour wasn't great, hence the B&W.
The top photo shows ruins on the island with people on a hot day (for Ireland anyway) enjoying the water.
The bottom one is a bit bizarre - a ship high and dry near the western end of the island, the victim of a storm years ago.

Hello Ian,
Ruins (of different kinds) seen in B&W make both photos look very old. I spontaneously wondered "did people really go to the beach in those days" when looking at the top one. But I realized these are your own photos and not your grandfather's.

Gert

Hi Ian,pics from the ferry watching the coast are a must for all,it's always a great opportunity to take unique compositions from a different POV. Very nice view of beach and ruins and great perspective showing the dead ship sailing on the wall..ehhee...well done! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Ian,
A fascinating combination with a views of decay on land and at sea.
Here, black and white is the right choice to make destructive effects of time in combination with the climate come to its fullest.
Excellent work
Have a good weekend, groet Rob

Hello Ian,
I was curious to know why you had used b&w, thinking perhaps that you wanted to make the photographs seem timeless, but your notes explain the reason. In b&w, they are fine records, sharp and with good details.
The stone walls seem like a maze, in front of the castle!
Love the shot of the wrecked boat!
The juxtaposition of the lighthouse seems ironic!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
You have captured well a daily life scene at the beach. The point of view is showing the details of the ruins and of the derelict boat. When it is hot, heat haze is affecting the colors of a picture, you ha d a good idea to convert to B & W. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
Two excellent photos of the island with the ruins of the buildings as well as the old ship, which apparently not even the lighthouse at left was able to save. The cliffs look pretty impressive, too.

Hi Ian,
Interesting two images like a scene coming from a war of long ago. Presenting it in B&W exudes a feeling of melancholy.
Well presented!

Hi Ian,
the black and white makes it feel as of these were ancient photos and yet they are not so old.
The bottom one suffers a bit with the lack of clarity, which adds to the feeling of an old postcard.
Nice reportage, very good compositions.

Hello Ian, either of the shots could have been a main post.
I like the conversion to black and white, giving the pictures a timeless feel.
In the picture of the ruins, the people give us a true impression of the scale. The ruins are extensive. The b/W seems to emphasise the textures of the stone work and terrain.
Your viewpoint of the ship wreck looks good as it is situated on the horizon.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Ian,
Except on Inishmore I was also (during the day) on a second island but I think it was Inisheer. I arrived by boat from Doolin and later on the day I travelled further to Inishmore.
The upper picture is quite stunning: the landscape with the many drystone walls and the ruins and houses on top are a fantastic sight.
Best regards, Paul
