Photographer's Note

The Tuscan town of Montalcino sits high on a hill looking over the western end of the Val D'Orcia. Montalcino is surrounded by vineyards that grow the outstanding Sangiovese grape wine called Brunello di Montalcino. Most of the vineyards on the roads leading to town offer wine tasting, and in town a number of Enotecas (wine shops) offer tastings from a variety of Brunello vineyards. The park in front of the Fortezza, a 14th century Sienese battlement, makes for a great place to enjoy some Brunello along with a typical Tuscan lunch of Pecorino cheese and Prosciutto. La Fortezza is also the viewpoint from where this picture was taken.
