Maissala, a photo from Trapani, Sicily

Photographer's Note

This is another photo taken at the saltpans of Marsala in Western Sicily. The old mill that you see dates back to the middle ages. The region of Marsala is also famous for it's wine by the same name and the word "Maissala" is the name for the region in the Sicilian dialect. Marsala was built on the ruins of the original Phoenician town of Lilybaion.

A fantastic landscape, with more water than land. Very beautiful with the zigzag pattern formed by the borders of the salt pans and with the reflected mill.
The warm orange tones cover about the entire picture.

ti sei fatta prendere dalla nostalgia e dal romanticismo proponendo una così bella e particolare foto. Nostalgia per l'Italia e nello stesso tempo romanticismo per la bella luce che illumina le saline e che ispira sentimenti romantici.
I colori sono incantevoli, così come lo è la stessa scena ritratta, poi, come tuo solito ci aggiungi la tua perfezione fotografica e la tua super nitidezza che permette di distinguere anche un moscerino.

Fantastic colours of the salt pans in Marsala, known already from Francesco photos. Wonderfully composed shot, in nice colours and with beautiful reflections. Special calm atmosphere. I think there was a mosquito feast there. I always remember this expression when I go to my garden.

Hi Lisa,
Wow is a simple word but sums up my thoughts on this. Such a calm and tranquil image, and containing such beautiful magical light and tones. That the scene includes that wonderful old mill makes this a really classic shot. I have never seen water so still creating such a stunning reflection, and brokem up by those excellent lines. Fantastic shot, cheers for sharing this beauty.

Yes the game is on, and from where I watch its currently 10-19. The whole BOD thing has caused utter outrage over here, its been top news on the Irish and even some English tv stations. Never mind the revelations on the Anglo Irish bank tapes, the war in Syris, the trouble in Egypt or those kind of things, its the exclusion of O Driscoll that gets people marching :)

Hope you have a good stock of Tim Tams for the remainder of the game!!

Ciao cara Lisa,
superba la tonalita' dorata; sottilissima e magnifica la gradazione. Il mulino antico e' una struttura intrigante ed il paesaggio e' disegnato nel quadro in modo meraviglioso. Ci sono dettagli la cui scoperta e' sorpredente in queste condizioni d' illuminazione molto difficili che hai sfrutato ed esaltato al massimo. Un' interpretazione artistica di un paesaggio senza tempo. Complimenti e grazie!

Beautiful warm and golden glassy water ponds offset by the ancient windmill Doppelganger.
Very dreamy and relaxing.

And Marsala was one of my favorites before my doc ordered me to stop fermented drinks and even reduce coffee intake. At least I still have ice tea....

Believe it or not I DO remember your other photos of these saltpans (unlike how i forgot every single one of your lighthouse shots! remember that lol)

This is my favorite of the bunch, its not too often we get a golden hour light like this one. and the reflection is perfectly clear and clean - almost a perfect mirror image!
no pesky mosquitos this time???

Tosca and I leave to Vegas very early Sunday morning!!

This must be an interesting place to visit, considering its past status.
The soft light and the reflections create an atmosphere of unbelievable calm. There is no movement anywhere in the shot.
You have made a wonderful composition, all the elements strongly positioned ...though 'strong' does not seem to match the mood of this beautiful, peaceful shot.

Now Marsala is one of my favorite cooking wines, it has a very distinctive flavor.
Wonderful and evocative landscape. The reflection of the building (is it a windmill?) in the warm and golden lit, calm waters of the salt pans is impressive and the whole scene evokes a calm and serenity that is beautiful.
