Since the airport train station denied a connection with Milan Centrale, we got to admire the amazing skills of the bus driver as he very calmly threaded the behemoth bus through the c rush hour of equally large trucks and suicidal scooter drivers. The Milan to Rome Express stopped only in Bologna and Florence as it hurtled through the stunningly green hills and ancient barns.
After arriving in almost exactly the advertised 4.5 hours, we found lodging at the nearest hotel, less than a block away. The rather elegant Hotel Rimini’s 90 Euro rate included a full and lavish breakfast. The amazingly ornate ceilings and the tiny elevator with its open cage proclaimed the age of the well-maintained building.
