Photographer's Note
This was the most tranquil place I found for awhile. A swan quietly led her family on the banks and the boat sat there patiently to let the day go by. Outside of this oasis, the sun was getting hot, but that was welcome as it had been raining the day before.
Far across from this on the lake was a small island with a large brick castle.
You can read more about my day here in the Sauntering travelogue.
This picture was scanned from a 35mm which came out very grainy. I liked the grain, so rescanned it to enhance the grain, then saved it with high compression to distort the grain into texture. The plan was to take two undesireable effects to create a pleasing image.

The composition is very beautiful, to put this photograph in B&W is a good idea. A photograph with much of interesting detail.

Hey, Dan,
I think the composition is good but I'm not sure I like it in the multi-grain effect (would that be like healthy bread?). I wonder what that image would look like posterized or some similar, limited-color graphic technique -- kind of reminds me of a 1970s album cover.
Also, being of Lithuanian ancestery, I am always interested in pics of Lithuania...

Indeed I am getting a very tranquil feeling from this photo, it looks like a fantastic place to come and sit down for a while, read a book and listen to the nature. Nice composition, black and white is a good choice here, grain doesn't bother me, I do however (and it may be my crappy office monitor) some halos on the edges of the foreground tree, that you may consider burning a bit.
