‘Tetovo’s Painted Mosque - 2’

A second series about the Šarena Džamija in Tetovo, northwestern Macedonia.
My main picture is another outside view taken from a different spot.
In the WS a closer view of the walls and ceiling inside.

The Šarena Džamija was originally built in 1438 and rebuilt in 1833. With its elegant and elaborate decorations, it is one of the rare Ottoman-era historical structures in North Macedonia.

The mosque owes its name to the countless painted panels that cover the facades.
In English the name is often translated as ‘Painted Mosque’ or ‘Decorated Mosque’.

Hello Paul,
I am tempted to say that this composition is better than yesterday's. You used the trees and the lawn perfectly as frames, and a few persons in front of the building are always appreciated. The light is also very good. The interiors in the WS are interesting. I'm still not entirely convinced of the beauty of the decorations, but they have a kind of "folk art naivety" that I appreciate. I imagine they signal the distance from the more sophisticated artists of Istanbul or Edirne. No mosques I have seen in the heartland of Ottoman culture have had a façade like this one. Without the minaret I might have thought this was a gambling den.

Bonne option de cadrage avec cet encadrement végétal en avant-plan qui guide la vue vers ce joliment décoré bâtiment, bonne gestion de la lumière entre ombre et lumière du soleil, bon effet avec la position centrale et en haut de ce minaret, bonne présentation.

Hi Paul,
A different angle on this photogenic mosque. Veyr unusual structure indeed and I am glad you decided to share your photos of it. Yoou are lucky to have quite rare destinations in your collection like the Brunei.
This perspective offers nice symmetric composition but also more challenging light with the wall of the mosque being in the shadow. The colors are less pronounced in the shadow but the unique design is still very apparent.
You have positioned the minaret perfectly between the tree branches. Great attention to detail.

Hello Paul,

This mosque is very distinctive, unlike anything seen previously. It might have inspired later art, for it reminds me of the reverse of some playing cards that we had as children.
You have framed the mosque neatly with the trees and guided us in, via the small group of figures.
Thank you for showing us the interior details, too. Together, we can almost believe we've had a circular tour!

De naam zal hier minder belangrijk zijn.
U heeft de Moskee mooi in de midden geplaatst met het groen van de bomen als kader
De minaret past precies tussen de takken, goed opgelet als altijd.
Zoals de vorige zien we opnieuw de geschilderde panelen.
Mooi foto werk, bedankt.
