Photographer's Note
During the yearly Rotterdam Wereld Havendagen (World Port Days), the city celebrates the harbour (the 2nd largest of the world) and the harbour celebrates the city.
During the first or second weekend of September many ships are moored at the Cruise Terminal, the Wilhelminapier and the Parkhaven for people to visit. And there are demonstrations and presentations by the major users of the harbor -sometimes with the purpose of personnel recruitment. Generally the most spectacular presentations are those of the Rotterdam Fire department, Smit Tak salvage and the Royal Navy.
But last year, the innovative tugs from Multraship stole the show by their maneuvering and ‘dancing’. Multratug 33 (and her sister 32) differ drastically from the classic harbour tug. They are of course powerful (5,3MW) but very agile and flexible due to the carousel towing gear. And, owing to the 'RAVE' technology, highly manoeuvrable too, as is shown here. rnThe sisters were built by Theodor Buschmann Shipyard & Damen Maaskant Shipyard ( 2016-2018) and are operated by Mutlraship.
For the tech geeks / gear heads: About 'RAVE': "The RAVE (Robert Allan Ltd. Voith Escort) tug is a new concept (introduced in 2013) for a highly manoeuvrable, high-performance escort and ship-handling tug, jointly developed by Robert Allan Ltd. and Voith Turbo Marine. The most unique characteristic of the RAVE concept is the longitudinal alignment of the two drives ('pods'), in contrast to the more conventional transverse in a “tractor” configuration." Hallo Bert, many people participated to this event in Rotterdam port. They admire the ship during a presentation. It is doing manoeuvres on the water to show its features to the public. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Hi Bert, excellent idea to put temporary steps to asisstere the shows offered by this great event. Here we see a very particular moment with the evolutions of the boat that you have caught in a perfect position to make us understand something of what is happening, excellent quality. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Bert,
I love the idea of seeing boats dancing! No wonder the people are so enthusiastic! I can see spectators waving, clapping and photographing the boat which is very close and, by the look of the undulations in the water, is performing a sharp manoeuvre.
It isn't easy to relay movement on a still photograph, well done!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bert, your note has to be read so as to make sense of the scene. Thankfully part of a festival, and not an accident waiting to happen!
I have never heard of a festival like this before, it sounds very entertaining.
The wave created by the movement of the tug looks as if it might spill over and wet the audience.
An excellent composition with the spectators framing the action very nicely.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bert,
This is an interesting but slightly difficult photo to fully comprehend. You should have posted a movie on YouTube and provided a link so we could have seen the boat dancing. ;-) This photo is highly dependent on the note, which is perfectly okay with me. I like well written notes that really complement the photos. So when I see the boat almost about to capsize, I understand it's just part of the show, and I understand the obvious enthusiasm of the spectators. The persons in the foreground provide a very important part of the photo. A slight drawback are the obvious signs of heavy PP work on the trees, buildings and the crane in the distance.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Bert,
A superb capture with the dancing tug-boat, excellent with the many people at the pier and the tall building across the waterway.
That action is unique and special a very decesive moment.
Good afternoon,

Hallo Bert,
Een heel mooie en dynamische foto van deze sleepboot, die ook veel bekijks trok langs de kade. De boot zelf zit vol interessante details, vooral rond om de stuurhut. Mooi fotowerk en goede timing.

Hello Bert, Interesting idea of the dancing tug. As Gert p[ointed out, You could take a short movie and give the link on Youtube, I do this sometimes (but hardly anyone looks at it). Excellent composition, great sharpness and colours.

Goedemorgen Bert,
