Photographer's Note

A newsletter reminded me that today the 7th edition of the Amsterdam Sculpture Biennale – ARTZUID will be opened.
A great opportunity to look at my photos from the 2019 edition in my archive.
I previously posted a number of photos of the 2017 edition on TE, but to my surprise I have mistakenly not yet used my 2019 photos until now.
Hence, today 2 photos of “YOUR DOG” which is actually YOSHITOMO NARA's dog.
I remembered also seeing the dog in the Voorlinden museum later that year.
This work “Dog from Screen Memory” refers to the idea that some memories float around in your head as images and sometimes suddenly surface. The work resembles an animation, as if the dog has crawled through the museum wall. Yoshitomo Nara spent his childhood in the countryside and often felt lonely there. He read a lot of comic books and preferred to communicate with animals rather than people. His work refers to his childhood and to the contrasting emotions of his youth: both the sadness and his flight to a fantasy world.
