Fietsenflat II

After my two other pictures of de Fietsenflat (Bicycle Flat) in Amsterdam is here another one from another point.

De Fietsenflat is located at het Stationseiland (Station Island) near Amsterdam Central Station.
It has always been a great problem with parked bikes around Amsterdam CS. In April 2001 the Fietsenflat was built, that has space for 2,500 bikes. On the whole square there's space for 6,000 bikes, but there are many more, cause everywhere on the square bikes are parked.
At the other side of the water you can see de Prins Hendrikkade.

Hi Lars. I prefer this to your other excellent shots of this. As Wes points out, one can see more of the structure; the POV is very good, the scene very absorbing. Was this parking centre built for bicycles in the first place, or for cars? A well executed portrayal, indeed rather fascinating to those of us in North America who should ride more bicycles!

Bonsoir Lars,
C'est très bien de nous montrer ce genre de photographie qui étonne un parisien !
Un parking spécialement aménagé pour les bicyclettes, nous avons encore du travail pour prévoir de telles choses sur Paris et la région parisienne.
Je ne sais pas non plus comment l'on peut retrouver son vélo à travers ce magma !

Hi Lars. Another great shot of all these bikes. I still can't get over how many there are. This shot reminds me of modern art with the buildings and the shapes. Nice light and sharpness. Very nice one.

I like so much these subject whit the dutch obsession for bicycles.
This post with different floors from the sacred object is very attractive.

Hi Lars, I have never seen a parking structure dedicated to bikes before. This is a so big parking structure and it is dedicated to bikes only. What a scene: a entire parking structure filled up with bikes, one next to another.
A nice capture of the special building and a nice POV to see the structure as well as the environment around it. Good contrast and great details. Well done.

I have never seen anything quite this busy before. compositionally it is very interesting. The lighting, regretably has been a little harsh, no? anyways, I wonder if it would look more dramatic during a sunset.

Le vélo un des symbôles de la Hollande a une présence primordiale dans ce pays.
En France ce genre de bike parking n'existe pas et chez nous les bicyclettes sont souvent dérobées et les cyclistes ont beaucoup de mal à circuler en ville.
C'est une composition très originale.

The bicycle one of the symbols of Holland has a paramount presence in this country. In France this kind of bikepark does not exist and on our premises the bicycles are often stoolen and the cyclists have much difficult to circulate downtown.
It is a very original composition.

Det enda europeiska land en sådan här enorm cykelparkering kan förekomma är i Nederländerna. Ni har någon sorts kärleksförhållande till cykling. Något vi mindre trångbodda inte kan förstå.

Hi Lars! Very interesting photo, in fact I had never seen a bycicle park in all my life...
And it is a pitty, because this is indeed an ecological means of transport, but in my country we use bycicles almost just on weekends...
Anyway, this is a very nice photo, taken from a good perspective.

I really think I would be here hours trying to remember where I put my bike. There's just so many on all these levels. And I like how you composed it with this path of bikes leading into it. we follow from the lower left into the scene, around the outside of the parking area and then out of the frame it seems to go up like a stair well level by level. And I really like how it overhangs so prominently from this point of view making it seem extra ready to burst from all the bikes in it. And I think I see bikes across the water adding even more to the scene. It's a bike world! Nicely done, Lars.

Hi Lars - the thumbnail did not look very interesting, so I never opened this one before, but now I'm glad I did. This is super inetersting, a multi-level parking structure for bikes- so brilliant, and probably only in the Netherlands.

mooie foto en kekke architectuur van de flat.
leuk om de fietsstad te zien, in deze foto zie je dat ook heel duidelijk. fietsen in de flat, op de voorgrond, en aan de overkant tegen de reling tussen de twee driehoeken van de parkeergarage!

Hello Lars, I don't think I've seen a multi-storey carpark for bikes before. It's incredible to see so many cycles in one place and on top of each other. Maybe the Dutch should export this idea to China...

Lars, on a de la peine à imaginer la place que peut tenir lé vélo dans la vie quotidienne de ce pays. Cette photo nous fait toucher du doigt cette réalité. La photo nous montre ces vélos à tous les plans et à tous les niveaux. Bien vu !

Olá Lars, bikes, bikes and more bikes...everywhere ;-) This another great composition of this well known park of Amsterdam, especially the excellent foreground, which gives strengh to the groundfloor level, since the other three have a big impact hanged up there against the sky. Also nice to see the scenery in the background. Great shot!

This is an amazing sight, and I remember the first time I saw it for real, Lars.
It was on 02/2002, a mild winter it was and everybody (well, almost) in Amsterdam was riding bicycle and using this lot.
Chosen a fabulous POV with the town waterfront buildings through.
