Virgin Forest, a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

A sneak-peak into the virgin forest, where logging never took place and the trees die a natural death! I guess this is the closest we come to rain forest…

And this is the home of the trolls according to old tales, as trolls are said to dwell in isolated mountains and old forests where they live in caves, sometimes several of them together in family relations.

In Scandinavian folklore, trolls are defined as a particular type of being, generally held to be larger than humans and notably ugly looking. Numerous tales about trolls are recorded, in which they are frequently described as being extremely old, very strong, but slow and rather dimwitted.

One particular characteristic of trolls is they will turn to stone by exposure to sunlight, that is why they prefer dark and shady places. This reminds us about something also known from the vampire tales.

So if you dare you may follow this small rivier winding into the Kingdom of Trolls..!

Perhaps can a lot people follow these narrow river in a program for walkers, lovely between the forest with a excellent fresh aroma.
Excellent perspective and depth picture.

Hi Pablo,

The trees are a natural frame to the river. The point of view is sending my eyes toward the trees in the background which is giving depth to the composition. The afternoon light is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

This is a very relaxing photo to look at! Your composition is nice using the trees to frame the rushing river. The contrast between the bright green trees and the earth tones of the stream bed is great. The lighting and colors are fine as is the photo's sharpness.

Superb shot of the virgin forrest, augmented by an informative note. The idea of meeting some trolls has some appeal, but I'll hold off. I wonder how closely they are connected to the leprechauns of Ireland? You are doing justice to that Nikon D300, I am happy to say.

Gorgeous place and very fine image Pablo, the light makes the leaves reverberate creating a sensation of a magic place where fairies (and Trolls) live... The think wood gives really the impression of a virgin environment... are there wolves? or bears?
A place where surely I'd like to have summer hikes, maybe camping there (if no dangerous animal are present).
You photo is so well composed and captured and conveys a sensation of freshness and grace.

This is a very interesting post . Somehow we don't realise that there are virgin forests in Europe. We tend to think they are mainly located in the tropics and equatorial regions.
This place looks very inviting, with the winding stream coming down through the forest. I am sure the trolls there are very nice beings :-))

This is a square of ice to cool on hot days. Effect of cold air coming through the forest along a stream, that water is a natural source of coolness.

Very nice little river in virgin forest. I would not expect to see trolls here but maybe one or another trout in the river. Your photo is taken from a very nice POV and I really like the atmosphere with very green leaves of the trees and the absence of shadows. TFS and have a nice evening!
