Photographer's Note

This is probably the most beautiful red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) I have ever seen! Even with his muddy face hehehe… Maybe one in a hundred comes with a fur colour like this, and look at the thick fluffy tail…

Last year he was born in a large pine just outside my backyard, and I watched him grow up with his siblings during the summer of 2010. As nature prescribes they left the nest July/August and I haven’t seen him since, until he turns up for a photo session 12 months later!

I have earlier posted an image showing him in early June last year, with his sister in front:

It was real fun to watch him exploring the childhood ground, but I never saw him enter the tree where he was born! Fortunately I was able to capture this beautiful animal running around, and this image is one in a series of around 20-25.

I was really surprised as he obviously recognized me, otherwise he would never come close to be patted and to have his nut reward!

But it was only a brief visit and I haven’t seen him since…

The closest we have to squirrels are possums which are very avaricious and eat everything in one's garden; rose bushes, fruit trees9not just the fruit), vegetables, ornamental trees.... Regards. Un écureuil poseur et une prise de vue bien rapprochée qui nous fait profiter des détails magnifique de cet bel animal pourtant farouche. La zone bleue azur sur laquelle il a pris place offre à la composition une couleur vive supplémentaire alors que l'ensemble est déjà hautement coloré!

Amazing this "dirty face" !!
As if he is posing for you. Last summer I've grown a baby squirrel, which was fallen in my fireplace ! Most probably his mum had there her nest. Thanks God there was no fire.
We have grown him (or her) and put back into the nature.

Indeed a beautiful specimen ! And although I know how close you get with your friends, I didn't realize that you could recognize them after a year's absence. But, I have just read your explanation to Angshu and Donato. I see that they are just like YOUR wild pets, and they treat you with a visit, just like a nephew would do out of courtneousness :-)
Anyway, I am as much interested in the relation you have established with the nature around you as in the quality of the photos you take of it.

These guys are much more tentative than their grey relatives and are known to be fierce fighters as many a house cat has found.
