Photographer's Note
I went to the store to buy provisions, and I saw this stream. I just wanted to shoot some photos of it. I think they turned out fairly well, but I hope that you have some input as to what could make this an even better image. (Snow makes for fairly dead light so this bit is fairly dificult...)

Hi Halgeir,
It is a very pretty scene and I can understand why you wanted to photograph it. I tried a Workshop as per your note to see if I could improve it in any way. Hope it meets with your approval, although others with more advanced abilities than mine could probably do a lot better! Anyway, nice shot. Best wishes, Vicky

As for me :
- composition is good,
- sharpness good but could be improved,
- trouble could be contrast since as you mentionned, taken picture of snow seems to be tricky and lead to a grey tone. A solution is white balance if you can do it on the camra otherwise post-porocessing can do it (with PS for example). However, I am not very failiar with the technique.
I hope some real pro will give you advice.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Hello !
I like very much this picture because it looks like a black and white one. I think you're living in a beautiful place, when i go shopping i just see buildings, pigeons and angry ppl...
The color of the water is very special and gives the picture a great atmoshpere. Nice contrast also.
Bref, very good shot.

Hi Halgeir,
Nice capture of this river running through the frozen edges. I also got some similar pictures on Aspen/Vail area. Nice light and good exposure.

Hi Halgeir, A well composed picture to show the spring time of braking the ice and melting the snow in the mountain. Nice contrast and good B&W effect even if this is a colored picture.

Hei Halgeir,
Nicely composed image of this small creek where the ice is about to break up..!
Spring is hopefully coming your way too...
Good textures in the snow, and nicely framed by trees!

Hi Halgeir!
Considering the difficulties of shooting snow it is a wonderful comp..It just have some little problems mainly with contrast and sharpness but this is something we both are here to improve right?I just have to add that maybe a diffeent POV(like sitting on your knee or something)with the horizon a bit higher would add much more to your comp and would a give it a different, even more pleasant mood..You did great my friend..
Have a beautiful day..

Good composition, however its a bit over-exposed and you've lost detail in the snow.
This is very easily done in snowy conditions, and the same thing has happened to me in the past.
One of the best solutions is to take a spot meter reading from anything with an average reflectance, such as a patch of grass or a rock. Then lock the exposure, recompose and take your picture.
Hope this helps.

Hi Halgeir,
I'm sorry that I can't offer any suggestions about taking photos of show scenes such as this, but I imagine that it's not easy. It never snows where I live.
In spite of the problems you had getting a good photo of the snow, there are other elements that I also like about this pic. The water looks more natural in your image than in the worshop you were sent, the image quality is good, and I like the silhouettes. If I had a choice, I'd like to see more of the trees, therefore making the entire scene the subject instead of focusing simply on the stream. I can only assume that there are reasons that you didn't broaden your shot. In spite of that, I still think the overall effect is very good.
Hugs,
Tony

A breakthrough in the snow.. Makes me se the end of a cold winter and the spring is ahead:)
A bit grey, but thats what I like about it. There's something.. Something I can put down in words.

Beautiful creek.
I love the way the stream seems to guide the view in to the photo.
Ok, this snowshot has more natural snow colour to it, it is no overexposed but it sure is overwhelming.
I'm guessing it would be much better to just get a raw format photo of motivs like this and just "fix" the right settings later.

Hi Halgeir,
like this but felt the same as what some others have said. You say you would like some help so I have done a workshop. The thing is it's better if you do it and work on the origional image, and if you can work in raw to start. Anyway, a nice image with the flow of the stream and the bottom of the trees works well at the top of the frame. I like it and deserves the praise on what is a difficult condition (high low contrast).
br,
Mark
PS. Always over expose white scenes by at least a stop to a stop and a half as the sensor is reading for 18% grey. Or if you can, take a light reading from a grey card.
